I'm playing a warrior, and I'm dueling the team's cleric; hes convinced that dispell can PERMANENTLY dispell equipment, in one round, in combat. I need clarification on this.  Anyone ever gotten into this arguement?

Assuming 3e ...
From the SRD, Dispel Magic:
"If the object that you target is a magic item, you make a dispel check against the item’s caster level. If you succeed, all the item’s magical properties are suppressed for 1d4 rounds,"

Dispel Magic- 1d4 rounds.

Mordenkien's Disjunction- Permanent.

Depending on what spell he uses to dispel your stuff it could last longer, but odds are it is dispel magic, and you are screwed for 1d4 rounds. (Basically an entire fight)

What Krusk said for 3.5.  For 4.0, disenchant item fits the bill, but doesn't have a combat application.

On a side note, why is this an argument?
