| #1xtimmyxAug 20, 2011 22:19:13 | Just wondering, if u were playing a wizard. you have to select which spells u want to cast for the day. there is always that hassal of sitting there after your party has rested for 8hrs, and trying to figure out physically which spells u want to cast for the day. and the players are always waiting on you to hurry up and pick out which spells u want to cast for that day. My Question is...is there any tips or tricks or possibly a computer program that you can use to select your spells quicker and more effecient, for which ones u want to use for the day? kinda like the system used in Neverwinter nights PC game for the wizard/sorcerer. thanx |

If you have real trouble, consider a Sorcerer (or Favoured Soul for divne spells), because you only choose a limited set when you are building the character, and can cast whichever you like when you need them. The number you know is very limited, so don't choose many "specialist" spells that only get used a little. Another good idea - don't choose any specialist "problem solving" or long-term healing spells in advance. Leave the slots empty, it only takes 15 minutes of reading/praying to fill a few empty, unprepared spell slots (ref: www.d20srd.org/srd/magicOverview/arcaneS... ), so you don't have to choose Knock versus Rope Trick . . . you can leave that decision until later. Obviously, you will still want to stock up on your generic combat spells in advance. |

Prepare those, then use wands or scrolls for spells that can be critical in certain situations, but those situations don't crop up all that frequently (like Knock). |

(This post created purely with the intention of heading off an edition war argument using humor.) I'm planning on joining a PF campaign hopefully sometime soon and I specifically avoided a Wizard and created a Fighter because I didn't want to have to deal with the hassle of planning and learning all sorts of spells. But I too would appreciate advice on which spells to choose for my spellbook and which ones to prepare daily or just general advice without addressing specific spells ... it's been a long time since I did any Vancian casting except for my brief time with OD&D last year. If I can figure out some good stuff I may still want to play a Wizard since even in 1e and 2e I was never really into Wizards. I like the idea of leaving some slots unfilled since you can fill them later with a small amount of prep time ... does that work in PF too? (Also not trying to turn this into a PF thread, really.) |
