I'm thinking of what I'd do if I wanted to play a gnome artificer who was wounded in the last war to the extent of either amputation or paralysis of the legs. (No, I'm not wondering how to give such a character superpowers in exchange for missing or immobile legs) In the long run, regeneration would fix it, but he can't scribe a scroll of regenerate until level 11, and there's no way some random level 13+ cleric is going to cast regenerate on some random Last War casualty like him, so I'd expect most of the time he'll have to deal with it other ways: Low level ideas: -Get a burly half-orc hireling for, say, 1 gp a day, to carry him around in a basket. Gnomes only weigh about 40 pounds. If the legs are actually cut off and not just amputated, that might be down to 30. -Use a wheelchair -- are there wheelchairs in Eberron? -Get a special saddle and a pony? Higher level (but still pre-regenerate) ideas: -Get some sort of grafts (if legs are amputated; not applicable if they're paralyzed, I suppose) -Find some kind of way of getting an item of self-controlling control body (the kineticist 4 power). (If legs are paralyzed; not applicable if they're amputated) -Get a 5x5 carpet of flying. Other ideas? |

He could simply have been badly wounded, or he could have replaced his missing legs with experimental mechanical devices (no special abilities granted, obviously). Mechanically, give him the Slow character flaw. You get the feat of your choice (prereqs still apply) in exchange. From there, there's little point in immobilizing him only to fix the mobility problem somehow. A legless Last War veteran works well as a non-adventurng NPC, but let's face it: PCs pretty much have to be mobile. Cutting your speed to 10' is going to be enough of a tactical problem for your party. Going to zero will only serve to cause major problems. |

Exactly what kind of excuse are you going to use to not just do that? |
| #7xiuhcoatlApr 13, 2008 9:24:38 | G A pretty simple one: Eberron is a low-powered setting. You'll need lots of luck and hope to find audience with such a high-level cleric ... much less pay him/her to regenerate your legs! |

You'll need lots of luck and hope to find audience with such a high-level cleric ... much less pay him/her to regenerate your legs! And later into level two you could buy a scroll of regeneration... 2275 gp, and pay a higher level artificer to use it on you for a small amount more. The point is that if the game is such that the player characters can hope to become level 11 in any normal time frame Im pretty sure you could find and pay/bribe a level 13 Cleric or Artificer to perform this task for you for much less cost/effort than making magic wheelchairs , flying carpets or walking robots. |
| #9yadotApr 13, 2008 12:29:33 | And later into level two you could buy a scroll of regeneration... 2275 gp, The problem with that though, is that in Eberron what few level 13+ Clerics there are are busy managing the religion of an entire city or communing directly with the will of the Silver Flame and the 13+ Artificers are secreted away in Cannith Forgeholds or secret Zilargo workshops. |

| #11shaggy_shaggsApr 14, 2008 8:39:07 | Who would be around to scribe the scroll in the first place? There's a grandfather paradox, it's best not to think about it. |
