My role play group is in a campaign where the players were all turned into vampires. It's been a very different campaign. The idea behind the campaign was to see if the players would turn their characters evil to gain more powers, or if they would purposely stay weaker to stay good. The results have been mixed thus far.

The second idea of the campaign was that all the characters didn't know each other, and they each had a secret. The secrets either gave the character specials abilities, or ability boosts or what have you. It was told, if you revealed your secret, you lost the ability it gained you.

Well, the story of the campaign is that, there is a portal that has the ability to let Pelor or Hextor into the world, and the person who finds the keys and brings them to the portal chooses which.

So, the party is trying to find the keys and let Pelor into our world in hopes he will un-curse us and return us to life.

Now, my secret was that, I am evil. Fully faithful to Hextor. I am to use these vampires to get the keys, then betray them and let Hextor loose upon the world.

So, I've done pretty good at keeping their trust, yet still doing evil things. Now the campaign seems to be drawing to a close, because we've gotten 3 of the 5 keys, and know where the last 2 are. So, I'm scrambling to make sure I have the advantage at the portal.

One of the other players, a rogue, swore to Hextor to gain more power, and the DM told me, so I welcomed him into my plans. He has a decent craft trap skill, so I want him to set traps around the portal so we have the upper hand.

The only things that can kill us is holy damage, sunlight, and going over running water. Holy water is a weird one, because it deals holy damage, but it can only kill us if we are doused in I think he said a quarts worth.

So, knowing this info, what kind of traps would you make? The best thing I can think of is a spiked pit trap with holy water up to the tips of the spikes. I want to shy away from a sunlight burst of some kind because it would hit me too and I don't want to die.

Oh, and just FYI, we are playing 3.5.

(Un)fortunately, trapping a smart vampire is hard. Probably the easiest way to do it is to have some fake keys made up and pull a switcheroo.

If you're hell bent on actually trapping/killing your companions, here's an idea:

Once you guys have all the keys, you head toward the portal, with them only to find that they can't enter the fortress/dungeon/temple or whatever it is that the portal is in. You can, because beforehand, you claimed it, now you're the rightful owner, and you haven't given them permission to enter. It's getting on toward dawn, and you make a grand speech about how it's you that will receive Pelor's blessing first. You swear that you will speak on their behalf, but the glory must be yours. Make it a pride thing.

They'll hopefully think, "Man, this guy's full of himself. However, he's got us cornered, cause the sun's about to come up and we can't reach shelter in time, and he's going to talk to Pelor for us anyways. If we submit now, Pelor will still have time to heal us before the sun destroys us."

The assumption is still that you will free Pelor, because you have given them something else to believe is wrong: your pride and selfishness, rather than your outright treachery.

The best way to trap a vampire (not kill mind you, but trap effectively enough to kill) is to aquire a large beast (collosal if possible, huge at least, preferably one you can dominate) and have it walk behind the party. When they fall into the aforementioned pit trap and go gaseous form to avoid it, have the monster inhale hard and hold its breath. Then take out your scroll of flesh to stone and petrify your monster. If it's big enough and has a high enough CON score to suck up all the party members you may have just trapped your entire party eternally inside a rock.

1. Go with pressure plates if at all possible for traps.

2. Stakes are ideal for disabling vampires.

3. Garlic is also a huge hinderance.

4. Running water and water itself can easily disable a vampire.

Start out with some stake launching pressure plate traps. Then go to the garlic coated/braidded netting. Finish with a pit trap that drops them in a underground river. Or just build a mote around the temple or where ever the portal is in and summon a water elemental to keep the mote moving.

If all else fails dominate a cleric and have him cast daylight on the party but make sure your outside of the radius.

Trapping vampires made simple:

Seriously, though, the "declare yourself owner of the dungeon idea and stall till sunup is a good plan.

I have some ideas:
1.Prop a door open a little bit and put a bucket of holy water on top of it so it falls on people who open the door.
2.One word:Rapids.
3.A pressure plate that causes the roof to slide open.
4.Doors with mirrors on them.
5.Hire an Olive Garden chef to throw garlic breadsticks at them.

I'm sorry, people keep mentioning pressure plates and water, but vampires generally see everything... we know we're talking a high level campaign cuz they're vampires... can easily escape water and pressure plates by turning into gaseous form at will... in fact most vampires upon being startled turn gaseous form because that's their best defense. USE IT AGAINST THEM! (see my previous post).

the claiming the temple idea is the best one by far. Or else contact your local paladin's church and tell them that a bunch of vampires are trying to free Hextor. Make sure they know that these vampires are VERY good at lying, and are likely to claim they want to free Pelor to cure them. Bargain for amnesty. Then run and do the stuff at the temple while everyone else fights paladins.
