| #1amaya_akiraOct 24, 2008 4:33:39 | Here is the situation - we run a pretty loose game, homebrew things and odd characters are easily accepted. We're currently at level 1 so I decided to play a succubus according to the savage Species rules. The paragon Succubus. One of the other players has a plan to get mine drunk, which I brought up to the DM. I asked him if he was going to make my character able to be drunk despite that she has poison immunity and that more or less, Alcohol is a poison. He ruled that Strong Alcohol I wouldn't get drunk by because of my poison immunity but with a weak alcoholic beverage like the one I'm being given will get me drunk. Like Instantly... He's going to make me roll a fortitude save vs becoming drunk/passing out. I believe the DM is purposely doing this since the other character is interested in taking her upstairs to his room. In affect he's giving him all these bonuses to the other guy to help him seduce mine. A human seducing a succubus. Why don't I just not drink the drink? Because he made the ruling after I had already drank it. Why aren't I seducing the other Character - because I have a vow of chastity (not the feat - just decided on abstaining). What should I do? I kind of feel taken advantage of here - Mostly for being female with a naturally high charisma. |

I may well discuss with the player a system by which they can either choose to neutralise the alcohol or not but give it a chance of failure. I'm not sure quite how weak alcohol would make you immediately drunk, that makes little to no sense. You should probably ask what the DM what logic he is going with on this. Short of hitting the coffee there isn't much as you likely dont have enormous fort being a succubus etc it sounds like the DM wants you drunk. It seems to me that someone with poison immunity could handle their drink. Change self to a barbarian orc with an effective charisma appearance of 3 before you pass out and claim that the form you pass out in remains in place until you wake up... That should ward off most interest. |
| #3drmorganesOct 24, 2008 9:55:09 | A succubus is a demon that exists to seduce mortals. I find it unlikely that such a creature would be affected by alcohol, so I would rule that poison immunity does prevent one from getting drunk. Of more concern to me, however, is the heavy-handed way your DM is dealing with the situation. His ruling seems arbitrary, devoid of reasoning, and intended solely to *ahem* screw your character. Further, removing a player's choice in the matter (i.e., "No, you already drank it and now I decide that doing so is detrimental to you!") is high on the list of Things DMs Should Never Do. Bottom line: If you think this is going to wind up being fun, go with it. Otherwise, protest. |
| #4BloodsoulOct 24, 2008 10:18:32 | This succubus character... she still deals out negative levels with her touch, right? Succubi are like roses; look, but don't touch unless you're not afraid of getting pricked. |
| #5wyld_mutationOct 24, 2008 11:16:51 | Drain the life from them all is my view. Or get them drunk and then drain their life. |
| #6iamthescumOct 24, 2008 11:46:40 | Burn down the tavern. |
| #7baneofelvesOct 24, 2008 12:19:07 | Alchohol is a poison, you are immune to poisons. You cannot get drunk. So the DM made a bad call. What should happen is you outdrink EVERYONE in the tavern. If you're immune to strong alcohol, you are definetly immune to weak stuff. I don't follow that logic. Ask him to give a suitable explanation. |
| #8Arcane_GuyverOct 24, 2008 12:24:26 | You should probably call shenanigans on these fools. Alcohol is a poison, in every statted out form I've seen for D&D. A 9th-level Druid isn't any less vulnerable to "weak poison" than a succubus. A typical Succubus has a +6 Fort save, meaning a truly weak poison shouldn't be hard for them to ignore regardless of their immunity. So I guess you could just play along and then cry foul if your roll beats DC 15 but still are affected (DC 15 or less is what I would consider a weak poison). Finally, being drunk isn't mind control, it usually just represents a temporary penalty to Dexterity & Wisdom. You'd be well within your rights to energy drain the crap out of this creep by pretending to go along with his plan. |
| #9kyomamoruOct 24, 2008 12:56:54 | Alcohol is a poison. The 'severity' of which should not be questioned since it will set up a dangerous loop hole for your character in the future. This metric of 'only small poisons' will/can be used against your in the future beyond a simple 'drunken night.' Immunity to Poisons is part of your high ECL, and since you've paid for it already, should NOT be removed from your character. |
| #10DuskweaverOct 24, 2008 13:22:52 | I believe the DM is purposely doing this since the other character is interested in taking her upstairs to his room. In affect he's giving him all these bonuses to the other guy to help him seduce mine. A human seducing a succubus. If I'm understanding you correctly, your DM is actively enabling another player's character to **** your character, right? Against your (as in you the player, not your character's) will? If that is what's happening here, then I strongly suggest you find another group to game with. That aside, alcohol is a poison. If you're immune to poison, you cannot be made drunk against your will. To argue otherwise is just stupid. |
| #11amaya_akiraOct 24, 2008 15:35:10 | Thanks for the support, I noticed a few suggestions for draining and one for changing self to an ugly orc thing. Just thought I'd repeat that My Succubus is the from the Succubus by level progression thing from Savage Species guide, its on about page 196 in the book. I don't get any of those abilities until higher levels, currently I only have one form to change into but I have a set of claws I could use to slit his throat for taking advantage of me. *I thought it was worse because the player of the one that wants to take advantage of mine is a female* I've been really wanting to play a monstrous race in a campaign, and I get board easily with the standard core classes and funky prestige classes. This is the only group I've found that will let me play this kind of stuff - I know there is more options, I'm just ignorant of them, can someone clue me in? |
| #12maulornOct 24, 2008 16:34:35 | One two words + acronym Be evil, TPK |
| #13nephliteOct 24, 2008 16:44:36 | Burn down the tavern. You'd be amazed how many times that is the right answer. :D |
| #14doomsoughtOct 24, 2008 16:47:14 | Burn down the tavern. Remember, you are a DEMON. With fire immunity coming down in later levels, arson is just fun to you. |
| #15aberzanzoraxOct 24, 2008 17:18:01 | Q: Can warforged become inebriated, and thus become drunken masters (from the Complete Warrior, pg. 27)? http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ask/20061023a (Bolded by me.) You're off the hook. My advice? Play drunk, go up to the person's room, then pull this out in a private session with the DM (either before hand ideally or at the time if necessary). Then, exact your revenge on the other person, who, if they also had a drink, should be FAR more vulnerable than you. |
| #16doomsoughtOct 24, 2008 17:54:19 | http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ask/20061023a I'd suggest hog tied, naked upside down from the tallest building in town. With a synonym for idiot written on him. ... Also set the in on fire. |
| #17amaya_akiraOct 24, 2008 18:52:45 | Well I"m done with the group, I presented this to the DM and he simply looked shocked and said..."Uh, well we were using Variant alcohol rules didn't you know?" Grr... He claims that the wine bought at the place was magical and junk so I'm done. Looking for a new group. D: Its so hard to find people that accept monstrous characters. |
| #18bedeverekmOct 25, 2008 3:00:50 | Don't know the stats in question, but does the template say immune to poisons, or immune to natural poisons? Even if the poison is magical, as long as it is still a poison, immunity to poison covers it. Your DM is making stuff up to penalise your character into what he wants to happen. This is called several things, ranging from railroading to cheating. (Yes, DM's can cheat, its when they make stuff up on the spot to penalise their players). They deserve to be shot. In the face. With a hammer. |
| #19maulornOct 25, 2008 7:01:34 | This does make me wonder though... Drugs function like poisons...and there are some drugs made on the Lower Planes that affect demons, devils, etc. How they played you was BS, though. |
| #20oynazOct 25, 2008 8:10:05 | This does make me wonder though... Demon Whiskey. Cool I want some. |
| #21ShiftkittyOct 25, 2008 10:34:52 | Just when I thought my brother was the worst DM ever... New depths. Buy that DM a skin magazine and a box of kleenex and tell him to have fun.Demon Whiskey? Sounds right for Tennessee Ernie Ford's "Thunder Road": "Moonshine, moonshine, to quench the Devil's thirst, The law they never got him 'cause the Devil got him first." |
