| #1aztokMar 08, 2010 18:35:56 | In one of the champaigns I play, I play a psion. This character has the shaper specialization, and i tend to "even the odds" in battle, so to speak. I use pathfinder rules, and the Extended psionics handbook. However, due to some quirk of fate, monsters head straight for me, no matter what, unless they have no option to do so. I tend to take an incredible amount of damage for someone who stands in the back. As such, I have seen the Psion Uncarnate class, withg the incorporiality, and I really like it. I can think of a great number of neat tricks I can pull on my enemies while laughing off their (nonmagical) attacks. The downside is that I lack the ability to cast higher-level spells, which is kind of the job my character has. If I go straight psion, I can cast 9th level powers, which would be excellent, considering the cool spells you get at 17th manifester level. However, the ability to go through walls, or hide in floors would be an excellent ability, plus natural flight. So my question is, should I go straight down the Psion Uncarnate Prestige Class, or go fully into Psion? |

If you still have your 3.5 XPH, go have a look as the power "Astral Construct." That should tell you all you need to know. A Shaper with a couple rounds of lead time can really ruin someone's day. And to Aztok: this "quirk of fate" sounds like the GM might be out to get you, or at least deal with your "leveling" the field. Might want to speak to him before you make any moves to counter. |

I use astral construct whenever I can, but by then I have still taken a couple nasty licks from the foe before my big white beastie comes in and roflstomps him, which I need to heal or bear with until the end of the dungeon (the loss of 15 health isn't much to our druid or monk, but to me thats a third of my health!) I'm hoping that our DM won't adapt the foes we fight by too much when I become incorporeal, giving me a benefit by either standing halfway in a wall or under a floor, or even in a fellow party member, providing cover or concealment. The minor loss of pure manifesting power might be offset by my surviveability and new utility (free telekinetic force every round is pretty useful for throwing chairs or tables at the foe), and new touch attacks (3d6 at level 9) Overall improving my ability to do things our party cannot otherwise do without expending serious resources. |
