Resist Question.

Jul 18, 2009 1:19:13 Let's say I have RESIST 10 Fire till the end of the encounter.

On round 1, I get hit with a fireball that did 40 damage. SO, with the resist I only wind up taking 30 damage.

Now, lets say later on in the same encounter I get hit with another fireball that does 30 damage.

Will I only take 20 damage or did I use up all my protection already so now I take all 30 damage?

Jul 18, 2009 1:20:51 Resistance isn't 'eaten up' anymore, so if you have resist 10 fire, you will always resist 10 fire damage whenever you are hit with fire damage for the remainder of the encounter.

That news sealed the deal on wether I should pick Stoneskin as a spell or not.

I thought resist 10 to ALL was too good to be true.

Jul 18, 2009 1:51:10 I wouldn't say it's too good to be true, but it is a solid choice.

Just as a personal preference, I would pick Greater Invisibility, whereby I would be less likely to be attacked at all, and even if I am, I get a +5 vs melee and ranged attacks. Also, Combat Advantage against everyone!

If I'm standing in lava and get hit by a fireball and have resist 20 and the lava does 20 damage per contact +20 ongoing (Save Ends) and the fireball does 20 damage how much damage do I take?

Jul 18, 2009 12:57:31 In that instance you would take no damage. Resist applies to every source of damage separately. Just as it isn't used up for the encounter, it is also not used up for the turn. So yes, having resist to ongoing damage is very good.

This is a question where the absolutely correct answer is a split.

NO your Resist does not STOP the ongoing damage.

It merely prevents the damage from harming you.

That is, unless something (such as a time limit) takes down the Resist, while leaving the ongoing damage to continue.

Or something magnifies the damage without also magnifying the Resist.
