| #1forgelordOct 18, 2009 22:11:11 | I love bar fights in D&D. Share your fun stories. For example, here's one of mine. My group (a dwarf wizard, dwarf rogue, halfing rogue, an elf ranger, and me, another elf ranger) arrived at a new town and we needed an inn. Of course we asked for the roughest one since we're rowdy players who love a good bar fight, so the DM told us to seek the Drunken Goose. Arriving at the Drunken Goose, a man there walked in and ordered us all drinks, being overly friendly and talkative towards us. "Herman", as he was called, had quite a reputation. My keen elf ears picked up whispers of, "Oh, there goes Herman again," and, "Those poor fools!" I asked the bar tender what was up with Herman, and he replied, "Oh, I don't have anything against him. Just watch your pockets around him." Returning to my table, one of my friends got up to buy a drink for Herman, trying to get him drunk so we could maybe get some information out of him. He realized all his gold was gone. Of course, we immediately suspected Herman, but since there were plenty of shady characters in the place, we didn't openly accuse him. I jumped up and yelled, "Alright, where's my friends money?!" Everyone looked at Herman and burst out laughing. By this time, Herman was backing towards the door and making lame excuses, but since it was obvious he was the thief, I reached for my bow. The bouncers started toward me at the sight of the weapon, so instead of shooting him, I picked up a chair and pashed it over his head. One of the dwarves broke his nose, the halfing jumped on his back and the other dwarf slugged him in the nuts repeatedly. Eventually, the bouncers dragged us of and we took back our money. Herman turned out to be just a petty thief with no real ties to the main plot, but it was very satisfying and great fun to beat the tar of him. Does anyone else have any bar fight stories? |

He and his party go to find some answers, after having killed a young white dragon. Now, the dragons treasure horde had some large pearls in it which come up later. Without me realizing it, our Dm was introducing a new PC. A cleric walks into the tavern, who was designated as a healer in town and general good person by a streetwise check by another party member. Well, my Orc has no idea any of this, sees a woman wearing white and around his neck, a necklace lined with the pearls the dragon had, with the dm drawing special attention to them. (Because she would be interested in buying them from us:P) "White +pearls = Dragon goes my barb. He runs, jumps and punches him in the face" I say to the dm, the new player looks at me stunned. Then I realize, wait, thats his pc isnt it... Well, My Orc jumps, punches this cleric and she plays Koed to stop the attack. Well, I just punched out everybody's favorite healer. The towns roughest group is in the bar, probably the ones most often healed by her, and now they want a piece of my orc. Combat begins, with the entire NPC cast EXCEPt the barkeep attacking my orc. Be it punches, thrown bottles, whatever.
Stunned, and likely frightened, suddenly they cheer, and pat my orc on the back. Congratulating him on his fight, and buying him drinks. Fun times. |

| #4ShiftkittyOct 19, 2009 14:45:02 | This part of the campaign took place in an oppressive society, and people loved to take out their frustrations on anything nearby at the drop of a hat. The whole thing started when Beez, a fighter who doesn't speak, tried to get teh barkeep's attention to order a beer. Since he was a stranger in town, the locals had no problem jostling him aside. A calm person, Beez kept trying again and again until he finally lost his temper and threw a swing. The brawl was going fine, although Greygar, the wizard, was trying to get his backpack out of harm's way. You see, his familiar was in there and he didn't want her to get hurt. So the brawl was going thoroughy chaotic as barroom brawls are wont to do, and somebody spots this robed guy desperately clinging to his backpack and trying to leave the floor. Booze doesn't help with good decision making, so the guy grabs the backpack and a wrestling match ensues. Greygar loses grip on his backpack and it goes flying across the bar, landing in the middle of the floor and spilling the familiar, poor little Chanel, into the middle of the melee. Did I mention Chanel is a skunk? What followed was right out of Bugs Bunny. The whole fight stopped in a heartbeat as everyone stared at this lethal little stink-bomb about to go off. Then came Chuck Jones-esque cries of "Un skunk le pew!!!" from all over the place and the bar cleared out. The party then got their drinks and enjoyed a quiet evening. |

The part I liked the best is how the dwarf wizard thunderwaved two of the bugbears out the window (one of the PCs who was walking back to the tavern first realized a fight was going on when the two bugbears flew out the windows), and then a few rounds later, thunderwave-ed them out again, where this time they didn't get back up. |

Well, not exactly bar fights, but they were fights in bars, so I suppose they count, lol. The original 2nd Ed. adventure in which I first played my iconic character Ripper the insane halfling thief had us being attacked by bad guys as we were leaving a tavern - they crowded inside, at least a dozen of them in each of three waves, and started trying to pull us down with sheer numbers. Another party Ripper was in was supposed to capture a wizard who was spotted eating in a tavern. Nobody in town likes this guy, but they're not powerful enough to get rid of him. We easily convince an npc to go in and scope out the layout of the tavern and the people in it. The wizard's in there eating a bowl of soup, same as he is every day at that time. So we decided to ambush him right there at his table. By the time the main party came in and called out the wiz, the dwarf was standing on the table behind him, belting out some dwarven marching song at the top of his lungs, and Ripper was under the mage's table with both of his daggers out.
