The introduction in the PHB to these rules is very vague on this point and in trying to roll up a character (a halfling rogue) I am not sure whether little Lazar has access to all those powers or can only choose a certain number per level. If it is all of them, what about Wizards and spells? Is it possible for a Wizard to create new spells (aside from Rituals) or do they just always have access to only the spells listed in the PHB? I hope not as it will restrict my ability to develop things for my campaign world based on books I already have. |

In reply to the creating new spells, there are hundreds if you are allowed to use spells from other sources, like books, Dragon magazine, etc. And if your DM will allow it, you can absolutely create your own, just so long as your DM thinks they are within the rules and balanced. Another suggestion is reflavoring your spells by changing things like the damage type. It's all up to your DM but yea, theres so many spells outside the PHB you should have a wide choice to pick from if your DM allows it. ![]() |
