At first I wasn't sure, then found a post on here regarding someone asking Wizards customer service and getting the answer. Now I can't for the life of me find that post. Could someone either link to that post, some other quote by wizards or explain comprehensively why sneak attack maximizes with crits so I can convince my DM? Thank you. |

The "High Crit" property of some weapons, and the "Crit:" tag of magical weapons and implements are the two main sources of these extra dice, which only get rolled when a critical hit has occurred. Sneak Attack is not rolled because you scored a critical hit - you would have rolled those dice on a normal hit. "Extra Damage" doesn't apply to any damage dice that would have been rolled as part of a normal hit - they're all maximized. The short form is: What dice would you have rolled if this was a normal hit instead of a crit? Maximize all of those, regardless of their source. |
