Aug 24, 2012 10:49:15 So lately I've been wanting to play D&D, but to be honest, not a lot of people I know want to or have the time to play. I'm pretty much being stuck out in the cold by myself. Is there a possible way to play D&D as both PC & DM? I'm not entirely sure how that would all work out...can anyone give me some general tips or possiblities of how I would go about doing this?

I'm not aware of any way to do this, aside from possibly buying premade adventures and playing through as the party so you wouldn't know what would happen next. You could also use an encounter deck but that's pure combat.

Aug 24, 2012 16:57:57 Solo games are quite different to the experience that you have playing with a group, but that doesn't mean they can't be fun. 4e is probably the edition most suited to a wargamey/boardgamey style of play as the requirement for DM arbitration is significantly reduced with clear rules for the majority of situations.

Check out this site for a few solo adventures http://dnd.chromesphere.com/quests.html

If you're feeling creative you could build a random dungeon generator fairly easily - essentially just a set of cards with a location and an encounter would work.

If you're going to run through published adventures solo I would recommend running with a smaller than recommended party. The challenge of winning tough fights is going to be a large part of the enjoyment and you have the advantage of controlling all of the PCs so that you can coordinate their actions perfectly.
