Just trying to figure out how this works. I have a Level 2 Wizard and he has an extra Daily and Utility Power in there. I know you can prepare one (or both?) of these spells during an extended rest but does that mean you swap it out for your existing Daily or utility power? Or can you cast those spells in addition to what you already have.

Secondly it says "you can prepare a number of daily and utility spells according to what you can cast per day for your level". I actually have no idea how many I can cast per day (level 2). Where would I look that up?

Thanks

Open your PH up to Pg29.  On it is the Character Advancement chart which details, among other things, the number of class powers of each type a character has.  This progression is the same for all classes.  For example, all level 2 PCs have two At-Wills, and 1 Encounter, 1 Daily, and 1 Utility power available to them at any time.  Keep these numbers in mind while you read the following.  Now let's add the Wizard's Spellbook to the mix.

Like any other level two character, you only have 1 Daily and 1 Utility power available to you at any one time.  However, you unlike other characters, your Spellbook feature allow you to choose (i.e. prepare) which powers those are by selecting from the ones written in your spell book.  At the end of an extended rest, you can swap whatever Dailies or Utilities your currently using for those in your spell book.

Otherwise, you must still abide by the normal rules for power allotment.  For example, as a 2nd level character, you are still limited to 1 Daily and 1 Utility power.  Likewise, you can't forgo preparing that Utility power in order to gain 2 Daily powers for the day, or vice-versa.

And just to make it clear, you are choosing your powers ahead of time.  The decision of which spells you'll have access to is made when prepare your spells, and that decision is locked until the next time you prepare your spells.

For example, Merl is a 2nd level Wizard.  In his spell book are the Daily powers Flaming Sphere and Freezing Cloud, as well as the Utility powers Feather Fall and Shield.  Currently Merl has Freezing Cloud and Shield prepared.  However, his adventures will soon take him to the lofty peaks of Death Mountain [insert omnious thunder/].  Fearing death from a sudden stop, on the morning of his expedition (read: at the end of an extended rest), Merl decides to swap out Shield for Feather Fall.  He's perfectly happy with Freezing Cloud as his current daily, so he decides not to change it.  Merl now has Sleep and Feather Fall prepared and is ready for Death Mountain [insert more thunder/].

Later that same day, Merl and his party encounter a White Dragon while exploring the mountain.  Merl silently curses to himself (and the DM) for not preparing Flaming Sphere instead of Freezing Cloud, but such is life.  He'll just have to rely on his other power for this encounter.
