Starting a New Game?

Jul 25, 2011 22:02:52 Any idea what the best way to go about finding people to start a new D and D game is? I just moved back to my hometown area; had a game going with some friends I used to play with but that basically fell apart due to scheduling conflicts. I'd like to get a new one started but haven't found any other players/DMs.

I thought there might be a place online to try to find people to get a game going, but I haven't found any yet.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Jul 25, 2011 23:18:09 Check local game stores and see if they're official gameday stores. You can join in on Encounters events on Wensdays if they are. If you're interested in DMing a game, you can probably find some folks to play at local game stores too.

i'm actually just getting back into it after years of not playing, so shorter encounters might actually be better to get me back up to speed.

Jul 26, 2011 10:51:42 I just started using maptools for online play. We have some players here in Canada and some in the UK so it's really the only option for us.

There are some on line resources that I’ve had some luck with. Its hit and miss mostly but you never know where someone looking for a game to join will be hiding.

www.meetup.com/ this is probably the best place to start. Joining a preexisting gaming group is free and there is likely one already formed in your city. I managed to meet two of my current table from Meetup. It’s easy to use and I’ve found everyone to be friendly

www.enworld.org/ Enworld has a gamers seeking gamers section that includes a rather functional map feature

www.penandpapergames.com has an entire section devoted to helping gamers find other gamers. Read the online stats of each person carefully. Some of the personal ads are years old.

nearbygamers.com/ The interface is a little tricky to use and the map feature is often touchy but it is worth checking out

some advice about finding people on line like this: Its best to have a meet and greet with the people you are in contact with first to find out if you are compatible and if you can get along with these players.
