Hello hello,

I'm a new DM who's about to run a game for a group of virgin players.

One of my gal players wants to make a female Dragonborn fighter, but wasn't happy with the artwork available in the PHB.

I've done quite a few google searches for female Dragonborn, Half-Dragon, Sauron, et cetera images but haven't been /overwhelmed/ with what I've found thus far.

I was just wondering if any of you might have some suggestions for portrait artwork. And also what your recommendations might be for a miniature.

No reptilian mammaries necessary, although they don't particularly bother my friend either. ;-p

Races of the Dragon, page 8. But its the original dragon born.

I might be able to draw one myself and put it up on my photo-bucket quick if you give me a description.

I don't know if they've done any female dragonborn minis for the DDMs, although you could check on the Wizards site - they do have pics of the sets on there...

If your player's not too picky about looking feminine, this Reaper half-dragon might work if you've got a painter in the group... It's not a perfect match for a dragonborn, but it'd work.

Reaper half dragon

My personal collection of fantasy art didn't have any dragonfolks in it, but if I find time tomorrow I may poke around a bit, just to satisfy my own curiosity...

@Doomsought - Thankfully, I found Wizard's Galleries page, so I spent a good while paging through all of that for art. Thank you for your offer to draw one, I found a few on DeviantArt that I think will work, and I liked the one you posted very much when I found it.

@Mad_Jack - that's great - easily the best mini representative that I've come across.

Thanks to all for your help - it's much appreciated.

There's a female half-dragon mini, the Silver Sorcerer, from the old DDM set Dragoneye. There's also the Copper Samurai from the same set, which isn't a dragon but is wearing dragon-like armor.

Why would female reptiles have mammary glands?

Honestly, I don't think non-Dragonborn would be able to readily distinguish male from female dragonborn.

I don't think Dragons (inherently magical beings anyway) aren't really considered "reptiles" in D&D, and are even singled out as warmblooded in some supplement. So, for a humanoid race connected to the Dragons, I think having mammary glands isn't too much of a stretch.

@Ogre4Hire - thanks for the recommend, I'm stalking a Silver Sorcerer on eBay right now

@Master-of-Puppets - Thank you much for the links! I've forwarded the images on to my player.

Thanks again to everyone for their kind help.

Dragon born are an acquired template. They are originally some other race that then goes through a ritual (inside an egg) and then is reborn.

In other word they had them before they were lizards.
3ed for the win.

There have been gigantic, epic arguments about "dragonboobs".

Personally, if we have a duck-billed, web-footed, furred, poisonous, egg-laying mammal in real life, then a warm-blooded, half-reptilian creature that nurses its young is not all that far fetched.

Honestly, I have been laughing to myself since D&D 4e came out about this topic- all you people whining and complaining about the Races & Monsters female Dragonborn, when she's pretty much flatchested, and then we get the current version of her, who is far more.... well, buxom. I never saw this topic as being at all worthwhile, especially given the original source picture. Now, if the current female Dragonborn had been the first preview, I might have understood where you lot were coming from. I still would have mocked you, but I would have understood why you were complaining.

This very topic brought up in my wednesday night games created this question

What does Dragon born genitalia look like?
We came to the conclusion that

Female Dragon Born Va J J's looked lie predator mouths,

and

Male Dragon Born Doodles are like Aliens type mouths, with the extra mouth inside that springs out when excited.

Sounds like more of a horrible monster than a PC race. Like a half-beholder, or a half-illithid...I always pictured it the same way medusas are portrayed-slightly scaly, but the softer the skin, the finer the scales until your get to outright soft, normal (if still non-warm-blooded) skin in the most...tender...of areas.

Also, I again state that recent evidence points to certain non-bird like dinosuars as having been avian (four-chambered hearts, if still not bearing live-young or lactating). Dragons can assume a human shape, and are notably anthropomorphic. Why not chance DBs that they have mammaries as an adaptation to a humanocentric world?

Have you read all of the 4E stuff on dragonborn yet?

when Io was split and formed bahamut and tiamat. When Io was split, Io's blood fell upon the world creating the draconic races, such as the dragons, kobolds, and dragonborn.

Here is something from Dragon Magazine called Ecology of the Dragonborn:

Like true dragons, however, dragonborn hatch from eggs, usually laid singly or, more rarely, in a pair. Hatchlings are quickly capable of standing and walking, but their teeth take a few months to come in. During this time, the mother nurses her offspring. She slowly weans the child to soft and then normal food, which for dragonborn is usually more meat than other edibles.

If you are interested in the full Physiology of the dragon, from Dragon Magazine, then here:

Imposing, strong, and draconic, dragonborn cut an impressive figure among other humanoids. An average dragonborn is tall and strapping compared to the normal human, although the basic shape is the same. Also distinctive from human counterparts is a dragonborn’s dragonlike head, scales, fangs, and claws.

Despite a passing resemblance to reptilian creatures, dragonborn are warm-blooded beings rather than cold-blooded reptiles. Their bodies are hot enough to seem feverish to human sensibilities. This keeps a dragonborn more comfortable in cold temperatures. A lack of body hair coupled with a large mouth that can be opened to release body heat means that a dragonborn is no more vulnerable to hot temperatures than a human.

The scales that cover a dragonborn are tougher than human skin. Although these scales make a dragonborn less susceptible to small, incidental wounds, they don’t protect against damage dealt by weapons and similar purposeful attack. Dragonborn also typically lack the inborn elemental resistances true dragons might possess.

By the end of the first year, a dragonborn hatchling has the mental and physical development of a 3-year-old human child. A dragonborn matures quickly throughout his or her youthful development. At about 12 years of age, the dragonborn is a lanky version of his or her adult self. Over the next 3 years, he or she fills out into an imposing adult form.

A likeness to dragons gives dragonborn physical might. Dragonborn also carry an almost supernatural bodily potential to tap into and develop draconic traits. Most develop a breath weapon, which is dangerous by the time a dragonborn reaches adulthood. Still, an individual dragonborn might manifest more draconic traits than another. One might do so at birth. Such a change could instead come as the dragonborn’s soul quickens in the crucible of a
spiritual path or as the body adapts in the wake of mighty deeds.

Dragonborn are not a traditional reptile. They are more like a half dragon from earlier editions. Plus this is a fantasy game so any thing is possible. If I want all of the reptile in my campaign to have racks then I can do so. I want humans to be only male then I can do so. If I want elves to hatch from eggs then I can have that happen.
