Sun God Questions

I play an Invoker of Aumanator.  Aumanator is Forgotten Realms' version of a Sun God.  In the standard PoL setting, Pelor is the Sun God.

Here's the Question:  Could a worshipper of Aumanator receive Pelor's Sun Blessing as a divine boon?  Also, could a player in a world that worships Pelor (or another Sun god) become a Morninglord?

In the first case, it seems like switching the name is the only issue that matters.  No big deal.  The second requires that a character worships Aumanator.  That's a little tougher, but if Aumanator doesn't exist in the world, it doesn't seem right to limit player options that way

Anybody have thoughts on this?

Obviously, the only person whose answer to this matters is your DM.

For my money, 'must worship' prereqs are one step removed from those horrible old alignment restrictions of 3e.  I don't enforce them.  Worship Olladra but you want a channel divinity feat from the Raven Queen?  Knock yourself out.  By my reckoning, tying mechanical benefit to roleplay choices muddies the game.  People shouldn't have to sacrifice the effectiveness they want in order to play the character they want, and vice-versa.

Yes.

1) I think it'd be stupid of a player to have their character choose to follow a non-existant god & still expect all the benifits.
I can just imagine the conversation;
DM:"X" is not an option.
Player: Well I choose "X" anyways!
DM: You missed the part where I told you that wasn't an option??  OK, I guess you can claim to follow whatever you like.  But you're not going to get anything special rules-wise out of it.....
Nope, not unfair to limit the player at all.

2) Discuss it with your DM.  Who knows maybe there's room for two sun gods in your world.  Or maybe Pelor just goes by different names in different regions & grants different sects of followers different powers.

Largely depends on how you and your DM want to deal with it.  Me, I'd have no problem with erasing 'Aumanator' and replacing it with 'Pelor' or vice versa in either the name or the requirements, since they look to be pretty much the same guy.

funny thing when 4e came along isnt it.

most  new fluff is for their PoL quasi setting, which means mind you anything can be used anywhere at the DM's whim.

meaning it has to be convereted, as of which I see no problem with switching out pelor of it.

in fact if wotc comes here and reads this, fix your mistake on that and errata it so that it says, must worship Sun Deity.....

Strictly by the rules, it would be "yes" on the divine boon since it has no actual prerequisites, but "no" on becoming a MorningLord since it does have a rules prerequisite.  However, most DM's would likely say it's fine since Pelor and Aumanator are almost identical.

Wow, it sounds like you got a bit touchy about a player wanting to play the character that they will enjoy, not because they want to twist the rules, but because it might be fun to play this particular character.
BTW, the conversation is more like:
Player:  I like Amaunator.  Can I build a Morninglord?
DM:  We have Pelor.
Player:  Right, but isn't he a sun god, too?  Couldn't a Pelor worshipper worship the morning as an Amaunatori does?
DM:  Sure, but that's in the Forgotten Realms book.
Player:  Oh, you mean like the Drow Ranger that our other party member is playing?

I'm really just asking if this was an intentional move by WOTC, since tgose two gods' features synergize so well, and they wanted to prevent someone from throwing off game balance.

PS:  It's not like I asked if the Raven Queen and Vecna were interchangeable...

The division is more of an attempt to try and preserve some kind of apparent "uniqueness" to the campaign settings.

Frankly the books go out of their way to say "YES YOU CAN USE THIS STUFF EVEN IF YOUR CAMPAIGN ISN'T IN THIS WORLD."

It even encourages players and DMs to work together to adapt things.

Just read like page 5 of the FR Player's Guide and Campaign Setting book, or the Eberron Player's Guide and Campaign Setting book. And I'm fairly certain the same kind of disclaimer appears in every single "campaign specific" publication.

Furthermore, the RPGA (currently focusing on Living Forgotten Realms) allows nearly everything from every setting, and has a "conversion guide" available in the Character Creation Guide. Really simple: included are such things as "Pelor = Amaunator." You can download it here:
www.wizards.com/dnd/Event.aspx?x=dnd/4ne...
but (EDIT) the info is buried in there somewhere.

Essentially, as long as there's a reasonable fluff match then it can be used - Pelor in the PoL setting fills a similar enough role to Amaunator in the FR setting that the Morninglord class fits Pelorian characters. In the Eberron setting it would be Dol Arrah (though I suppose it would also suit some interpretations of the Silver Flame).
