| #1dragoonlavitzOct 07, 2009 3:04:54 | Hey, well, I hope this is the right place for advice from other players or DM's on character builds and what not. If this isn't the place, I apologize, considering this is my first time posting here on the DnD Forums. Plz don't keel me. On to business, I'm currently trying to make the fastest monk possible. I mean, literally, the fastest. I just want to make sure I'm doing everything right the first time so that I can play him without DM interference. I'm going to present him as level 16 to show you what he looks like Pre-Epic. Everything I present is from mixed 3.0/3.5 DnD books. So this is what he looks like so far. Joji Hizuka Human Shadow 1 Barbarian 13 Monk. Shadow Creature is template from the Lords of Madness. It has a level adjustment of +2. I take this because it increases a creatures speed by 1.5X. 1 Level of Barbarian is for the Barbarian's Fast Movement ability, giving +10ft to speed. 13 Levels of Monk, for their obvious verson of fast movement, which at this level gives +40ft to speed. He has taken the Quick character trait from Unearthed Arcana, giving +10ft to speed. He has taken Wild Talent and Speed of Thought from Expanded Psionics Handbook. Wild Talent gives anyone who takes the feat 2 power points and allows me to become Psionically Focused so long as I beat a Concentration of 10 or 20. Speed of Thought gives me a +10ft to speed so long as I am Psionically focused. As a monk without psionic abilities to expend power points, I am indefinitely focused throughout any one day. Additionally, I have taken Dash for +5ft to speed, and Run, for X5 on my run distance. I have the Boots of Springing and Striding from the DMG, giving a +10ft to speed. I have had Expeditious Retreat made permanent on me, giving +30ft to speed. Finally, I have the Psychoactive skin of the celstial, which gives me wings that let me fly twice my land speed. 30ft base+30ft Exped. Retreat+10ft Barbarian+40ft Monk+10ft Quick+5ft Dash+10ft Speed of Thought+10ft Boots = 145 Base 145X1.5=217.5 or 217. 217X2= 434 in flight. Run: 1087.5 or 1087 feet Full (Run) Flight: 2175 ft. Thats fast, but I know I can go faster, any ideas people of the DnD Forums? |
| #2pluisjenOct 07, 2009 3:43:19 | You could try on the CharOp forums, they're pretty good with this stuff. Just make sure you add a [3.5] at the beginning of your thread title. |
| #3KruskOct 07, 2009 10:57:12 | I don't know how active the old 3.5 optimization boards are, but here is the world record thread, with links to the builds that achieve them. community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758... Apparently the speed record is 1,059,008,683 ft/sec by Skydragonknight. You could probably steal some ideas off of his, to boost yours. |
| #4dragoonlavitzOct 07, 2009 13:46:10 | Well I'll be, over 1mill. The fast I got my guy, even at epic, was just over 200,000. Seems like I have some work to do. |
| #5KruskOct 07, 2009 14:55:50 | To be fair, yours is more than fast enough for most home games. Also his requires a buff time to start up, which yours does not. But yes, his is way faster. |

over 1-million, heck -- that's over 1-BILLION. |
| #8humanmindOct 07, 2009 20:46:18 | 1087 feet a round! Thats 123 Miles/hour! How do you stop?! Hewards Handy Parachute! Boots of Instant Breaking! How does that work when you run over a 10f wide pit trap? Or quick sand? Or caltrops? Or a trip wire? (ouch) And flying 2175 feet a round! Thats 250 Miles/hour! Can you hover? If not how do you land?! Bigmy's Landing Gear! Gloves of Reverse propulsion! If you make a flyby attack do you get extra damage? What happens if you fly into a bug? Or an invisible wall? (double ouch)

My assumption is that he has trained himself to be this fact, and knows the dangers and advantages, in addition to how stop or avoid obstacles. Thanks for the magic item ideas though. |
