tactical attacking, assist other

so i've heard there's is a skill check in 4e that allows a player to give a bonus to another player's check (such as attacking)


if so, how do you go about instigating it, and what type of action is it


if it proves to be useful, i want to get my group to use it more often so that our attacks hit more often and become more significant

It's a standard action.  Look under 'Aid Another' in the PHB.

thanks very much, i realize that is probably a fairly obvious question but i don't get much access to the books at the moment
