| #2gagnrathOct 28, 2009 14:06:38 | The Setting, DOG's apartment, a 1 bedroom apartment last refurbished in 1991, The carpet used to be a light grey blue, it is now dark brown with black splotches. It has its own biosphere and everyone is afraid to touch it even the cats who try to run across the furnature at all times. The walls of the living room are coated with D&D maps some of which go back to the AD&D boxed sets there are layers. There is an entire bookshelf full of minatures, and two bookshelves of books, and maginzines, dust on the sills a quarter inch thick and a grey dusty myst comes from from the AC unit. There is a thin film of grease on the glasses and plates that DOG eats off of as there has been no hot water in years. The bathroom still has monkeyboy's initials where he wrote them in the slime near the toilet while peeing. The entire place smells of dirty litterbox. |
| #3NovacatOct 28, 2009 14:47:00 | And you go there... why? |
| #4morganmOct 28, 2009 17:53:56 | Pure comedy how almost all of you are related =) I heard Dueling Banjos as I was reading this thread. It's no wonder D&D has such a bad reputation amongst supposidly normal people =P |
| #5dragonpimpOct 28, 2009 18:09:32 | Filthy humans. Filth filth filth. |
| #6brassbaboonOct 28, 2009 19:08:39 | The more this guy posts, the less I believe any of it. |
| #7gagnrathOct 28, 2009 19:24:00 | Pure comedy how almost all of you are related =) I heard Dueling Banjos as I was reading this thread. It's no wonder D&D has such a bad reputation amongst supposidly normal people =P
Heh kinda, most of them are related to or a really good firend of another, overall most are not related to more than one other. |
| #8sbtwinworldsOct 28, 2009 19:31:24 | I do hope you go into some sort of story regarding your cast of characters....sounds like me in 30 odd years if my wife didnt keep me from turning into DOG....at least the hygiene habits and cleaning habits....she cant stop my bookshelves of sourcebooks, miniatures, and the etc....seeing she is a gamer herself. So please go into some sort of story...cause right now...well.....cause without some sort of story... Novacat had it right...you go there why?
Please elaborate on your strange cast of characters |
| #9MarkAtkinsonOct 28, 2009 19:36:04 |
As I read these threads that same question keeps entering my head. If the conditions described were at a game I went to I would be gone sooooo fast. So please expand and explain the whys behind to cast of characters as well.

This. |
| #11Pundrake_the_MadOct 28, 2009 19:40:40 | This makes me wonder if there's a variant of Poe's Law specifically for rpg forums...'cuz this is really starting to look like satire. But there's no way to be sure. (Short of going back to the ship and nuking the site from orbit!) PtM |
| #12CCSOct 28, 2009 20:07:27 | I disbelieve. |
| #13tonmeistOct 28, 2009 21:25:02 |
Please make a will save. |
| #14gagnrathOct 28, 2009 22:06:14 | Everything so far is true though I am not being flattering or pulling any punches, Also alot of it is in sort of the worst possible light. |
| #15sbtwinworldsOct 28, 2009 22:37:00 | Lol it may be true...but its like saying
"I have this wonderful book. It has a ring and a little person. Some old freak loves the little person A bunch of people wander and die The little person loses a finger and should of died The End"
.......not impressed. Say some weird stuff thats happened with your odd cast of crew |
| #16darkspartanOct 29, 2009 2:27:00 |
Better yet, don't. You've ripped into this guy enough, and this sort of trolling ill befits the Game, Players, and society in general. You're older than I thought you were, which does *not* speak in your favor. Enough... Please. If it's satire, it's not funny. If it's truth, it's cruel at best. |
| #17sbtwinworldsOct 29, 2009 9:10:56 |
*sigh* Takes all the fun out of hearing about fellow freaks and oddities; but ok |
| #18darkspartanOct 30, 2009 18:28:13 |
Did you by chance read the other thread? This guy's been on this rant since his first appearance. The DM in question is mildly out of line, on that I can agree, but the continued muckraking is well beyond the pale. Telling this story is one more nail in all our coffins, should it become a matter for review by the people that don't play, and those just getting in, that see this kind of thing and try to get RPGs banned again. |
| #19brassbaboonOct 30, 2009 19:45:23 |
Well, I'd call that a bit of hyperbole, but the whole thing does play directly into all the worst stereotypes about RPG gamers, which is one reason I find the whole story lacking credibility. It just plays the stereotypes too perfectly. Like I said earlier, it's like "The Guild" which lampoons MMORPG gamers. Makes me wonder if they were hoping to turn it into a webcomic or a scripted web show. |
| #20sbtwinworldsOct 30, 2009 20:07:24 |
Lol. Television now a days is full of shows that show the stereotypes of everyone out there. And when arent gamers not stereotyped as either loners, freaks, or fatties....hell; I am a stereotypical gamer and when its pointed out how stereotypical I am, I just make a comment to prove it. Just for the fun of it
And no; havent seen his previous posts or otherwise I wouldnt have asked to hear of stories |
| #21Pundrake_the_MadOct 31, 2009 0:47:58 |
What do you mean "again"? When have RPG's ever been banned? PtM |
| #22greygrendelOct 31, 2009 10:48:56 |
However, the stereotype of both gamers and geeks is quite far from the truth for the most part. The "people" in these stories fall into all the very worst stereotypes, not just the loner/fat/loser type. The kind that are more disfunctional then the guests on Springer or Maury. |
| #23sbtwinworldsOct 31, 2009 12:31:32 |
Well society always observes the best and worst of every group. The average is never appreciated. This is why there are always stories on the news of either "Mass murderer kills 10 people" or "10 year old child raises money for homelss" never "24 year old man got an A on his history midterm" |
| #24darkspartanOct 31, 2009 17:36:10 |
They never have been on a large scale. Although a large number of communities considered such actions after that kid offed himself after his character died. |
| #25cymbelineNov 01, 2009 6:39:35 | Wasn't that when that group "Worried about D&D" started or something?
Oh yeah there is also glaring DM favoritism in various things. We aren't sure exactly what they are based on other than perhaps him having vague romantic dreams about the players mother even though he has no shot. I haven't had the most positive experiences with groups including couples, or any kind of romantic liaisons, but this is just laugh out loud hilarious. The idea that some of the players think that the DM is fudging some die rolls because they think he has a shot at one of the player's mom? I don't care if this isn't real. It's great. |
| #26DwarfFighterNov 01, 2009 9:56:01 |
On what scale have they been banned? What communities have considered "such actions"? What sort of actions? Who was "that kid"? -DF |
| #27vanyonNov 02, 2009 9:10:37 | I don't ever remember them being banned per se... but I had been playing for about a year when it hit the fan. If you are a younger player and have not seen these links, check this out for what we went through back in the day... Jack Chick, evangelist and comic book publisher who persecuted D&D and its players for years en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_T._Chick Also, there was a movie in 1979 about the death of 'That Kid' (a Dallas Egbert III ) referenced above en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazes_and_Monsters And here is one post of many that you can find out there about the times and attacks on RPG's that occured in the late 70's early 80's www.rpgstudies.net/cardwell/attacks.html All of these combined made RPG's banned in some areas and basically taboo. Back then you were seriously looked down upon if you were an admitted player of D&D. Personally, long before the stereotypes of nerdy and poor hygiene were the stigma's of satanism. |
| #28chaosturtleNov 06, 2009 2:10:55 | You've changed the ages of the kids since you first mentioned them. |
| #29joshevaNov 09, 2009 1:36:11 | Is it just me, or do we have a setting and characters but no plot here? |
| #30gagnrathFeb 21, 2010 9:01:42 | The other thread pretty much ended me and weevil playing there, the tweedle twins are both still there, as are some of the other cast, however it was decided that it wasn't worth dragging through the semi-public spotlight and just needed to end. Josheva |
