| #1arcana_manApr 06, 2009 11:50:32 | I made this thread to see if any of you out there have advice for people and a basis to go on with making desicions for there characters... like making kind of a table of contents post what you think or equal trade offs in character devolopment...state your rules of thumb |
| #2oxybeApr 06, 2009 11:56:54 | always go with the biggest evil you can, cause why do a little when you have potential for a lot! on topic however, are you looking for character development ideas, mechanical backing for those ideas, builds, ect..? otherwise if i'm given a choice between A and B i'll almost always choose the one that's most efficient for my concept. |
| #3Darkwolf_BloodsbaneApr 06, 2009 13:21:49 | I'll use the decising making "plan" for my CN Duskblade. (pertinent information for the following: I have a ring of Sustenance that everyone else forgot about.) Having just taken over two kingdoms, we had a food shortage, as some of the farmland was destroyed. (we were at about 65% capacity.) Our food was being rationed, and no one in the group was in the area except me. (They left me in charge of the troops. :D. They I was told I couldn't start any wars. )Me: My food is being rationed, this must not stand! So I come up with several plans. None of those actually ended up being put into motion, because I instead put the bored soldiers to work fixing the fields and farms. Casting Growth (acquired via research in campaign.) to increase production to about 85% normal. There. Problem Solved. I then said: "By the way, I would like to point out my true Altruism there.:angelhide" "You don't have an altruistic bone in your body, Wolf." "I'm wearing a ring of sustenance. "Them: ![]() ![]() Set up a behavior pattern. My character has been shown to constantly look out for #1, and only #1. Then show depth while "technically adhearing to said pattern. I was able to wrap the good in a seemingly selfish deed, that was, in fact, entirely altruistic. Now I'm trying to fix a girl who's being subsumed into a plane. :sigh: This won't be easy. |
| #4arcana_manApr 06, 2009 14:25:45 | I am talking about the veterans giving their words to play by in dnd and "rules of thumb you follow" as a way to guide the new generations of dnd youth The funny thing is...I cant think of anything but i thought this thread would be a good idea and i hope it could help a few players enter the world of dnd smoothly without to much embarrasment :D Like; what do you think is a good trade off of ac and hp How much HP is equal to AC I thought about it but it comes down to what lvl you are going to get your character by the time you retire him... you your going for lvl 20 i would say that 7 hp is = to 1 ac but if your going beyond 20 its time to beef that ac And also i wonder if there is a way to change the name of the thread so i can get dnd newcomers in here i supose my original idea for the thread name wasnt too great lol |
| #5arcana_manApr 06, 2009 19:35:11 | wtc This forum keeps erasing what i say! screw it im not writting all that down again.... just this part.... Blah blah blah sorcer is better than wizard.... blah blah blah Rule of thumb; Spend atleast 3 times as long picking your spell list than ittook to make your character ... spell list is everything Edited; BTW Consider once you got like 13 lvls in duskblade to take lvls in Favored Soul, God of death but shun the very idea of having anything to do with him but use his powers to further your own beleifs... it would be awsome with Arcane channelling clerics got a million touch spells a lvl 13 duskblade lvl 10 favored soul is almost as strong as a 13 duskblade 20 wizard... cleric touch spells are killer... favored soul isnt as good as cleric but its the only way not to be evil... heres a thought... lol go healing and grab a twig and do a full attack tap with your twig on your ally using arcane channeling with a heal spell... mahahaha twig of epic heals! |
| #6arcana_manApr 07, 2009 21:06:21 | Okay on this post im going to be explaining the basis for spell lists on wizards and sorcerers... there are 5 types of spells Area of Effect spells Single target damage Boss killer spells Resourcefulness spells Protection spells you want the AoE spells, Boss Killer spells and protection spells... leave single target damage to the fighters and barbarions and resourcefulness to the rogus and bards... anyway your area is Area spells boss killer and protection Im going to try to lay this out simple but its hard... get major and minor verison of stuff.... for a sorcerer for example Get Fireball, and cloudkill... why... well... they have different elements and saves.... one is fire and reflex other is poison and fortitude... for the many many situations you will be in that involve your players mixed with enemies get aoe you can control such as Magic missle 5 missles at lvl 9 then maximize and quiken them it could make for good dmg next up is boss killing abilities... im talking stuff that involves omg owned... give you an example.... Bloodstar from the spell compedium deals comstitution damage to target every time it is hit... so cast one spell and every time one of your allies hits the guy he takes consitution damage... very strong against bosses...and get other things like phantasmal killer... make the save or die.... Up next is protection... specificly YOUR PROTECTION... other people have dex evasion AC hp... worry about yourself... 1 spell... displacement can reduce the damage you take by 50%... OP... get stuff like displacement... greater invisibility, Mage armor, stoneskin....... Mirror image... you get where im going with this... its good to have major and minor aoe's ... Boss killing spells... and protection spells with all different elements and saves, for all kinds of different situations Follow this Guide i promise wont regret it NOTE: this is a strategy for 1A Spell lists... it may make it get boring when things get too easy... |
| #7arcana_manApr 07, 2009 22:22:49 | AND heres another idea.... If you give a rogue a spiked chain and wirlwind attack and he pulls off a sneak attack is only the first attack a sneak attack or is all the the attack sneak.... mayby he somehow successfully feinted all of them... or had a ability to vanish... or he just quick drew it in a suprise round.... The idea of seeing a robed rogue in a crowd of people then quick drawing his spiked chain... wirling it around...then everyone is laying on the floor dead/dieing All in the blink of an eye.... I gotta tell you if sorcerer's and wizards werent around ... rogues would totaly be my game _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Sneaks into the tarvern through the fire place and 4:30 AM and steals all the alchohol.... goes to the nearest tavern and sells it for half off.... IF YOU EVER PLAY A ROGUE... be a kleptomaniac.... steal from everyone... except your party.... N-E aligment A rogue is insanly more rich than anyone else...you will have every magic item you could ever want when your lvl 20....so my biggest suggestion to rogues out there are.... Make sure you have enough strength to carry all your loot... lol |
