I love playing a striker, it is by and far my favorite role, I just love kicking the crap out of monsters, the problem is the wife of the DM also wants to play a striker but complains if I am also playing one. She claims that I will always outclass her so there is no point in her playing one. We have offered to help her build a strong striker but she says there is no point in playing a character you don’t build yourself. I have tried playing other roles but the inner striker in me always builds for damage so even when I am not playing a striker class I get complaints about how I still a better striker than the actual striker in the party. My question is how do I resolve this problem, because at the moment either she is not having a good time because she can’t play what she wants to or I’m not having a good time because I am not allowed to kick the crap out of the bad guys. |

I find her to be at fault here; every Striker does their job a little differently, so as long as you aren't playing the same character (both playing archer rangers or whathaveyou), you should both be able contribute easily. Of course, even if you both were playing the same character, it's not like multiple strikers are a bad thing. It isn't even a matter of who does more damage; so long as you can both contribute to the game, you should both be just fine. I really have trouble wrapping my brain around her complaint. It's not like you dealing buttloads of damage means she isn't also dealing buttloads of damage ... |

That is the way I look at it I have never felt less cool just because the other members of my party are doing well. Unfortunately the rest of my group seems to be taking her side, and I don't know what to do I have made the argument you suggested in the past and it hasent worked. |
| #5Pashalik_MonsSep 15, 2010 23:28:03 | So, to recap: -She doesn't want you to play a striker, because she will feel outclassed. -She doesn't want your help in making a strong striker. -She won't accept that she can be useful if she does any less damage than you. -You want to play a striker, and kick some ass. I'd just play the character I wanted to play, and tell her to the same. If she complains, offer to help her(not build for her, but help her) build a strong striker. If she won't take your help, that's her problem. If she's not willing to brush up on her optimization skills, and not willing to accept your help, she needs to take the consequence of having a less optimized character. There's no reason you should have to switch characters just because she's stubborn. |
