Hey, While I invite everyone to give their opinion on the background and such - I am more interested in getting possible idea of names or source material to do a bit of research.

The DM wants me to come up with a background of the Monk's Order my character is with. I am going a bit indepth to better the game and have come up with the meat of the background and was looking into possible names and pictures of crests.

The Background:

A hundred years ago there was powerful guild of Warriors and Paladins that defended a good portion of the Realm. At some point, the realm had been attacked by a powerful army. The Guild fought back the Enemy and even pushed them back into their own territory. While Negotiating Peace, the enemy was able to attack and take one of their supply routes and captured their weapons. Using their weapons and powerful artifacts, the evil army was able to push the Guild back and almost destroy the realm altogether.

The nation rose up and finally did defeat the enemy, however the Paladin/Warrior guild was left with dishonor. They vowed never to use weapons again, as that was what almost destroyed their entire Realm. This lead to the formation of the Monks, after years of training and religious bouts.

So.. With that real brief background.. I need source material for possible names, ranking system, picture of a crest.. and things of that nature.. Either suggestions of names/pics or places for source material. I've been looking with out use.. Thanks in advance!

Off the top of my head:

Order of the Betrayed Blade

... seems to fit with the reason for their formation. These people formed the group because they were "betrayed" by their own weapons.
I don't have anything else, though, sorry.

The Temple of Enshrined Peace - after all their primary goal is to protect the peace.

The Order of the Dishonoured Guardians

The Redeemers of the Tainted Oath

On another note, there is a Prestige Class in one of the Eberron books (Faiths of Eberron I believe) that is designed for Monk/Paladins of the Silver Flame. With a little tweaking it could work for you, as could the Sacred Fist from Complete Divine.

Some monastic orders historically were named after the founders or influential figures. Franciscan and Benedictine monastic orders were named after Saints for example.

Your order could be named after the founder, the ex-paladin or monk who threw down his weapons. (Btw, I like your backstory a lot!)

Also, rather than naming your Order after something literal, might I suggest a more symbolic approach? A symbolic name could be more evocative. Here are some historical examples (though not monastic per se):

Order of the Rose
Order of the Garter (fun fact: Prince William is the 1000th Knight of the Garter)

Here are some suggestions from me:

Ancient Order of the Dove
Order of the Silken Wind
Ludite Dervishes (or substitute the name of the paladin/monk who founded your order)
Rule of St. XXXX (Again, substitue the name of the paladin/monk founder).
Gyrovagues (historically wandering monks)

Ranks: (Eastern Orthodox monasticism)
Novice
Rassaphore
Stavrophore

Or, we could all play "Name that Monk Order Mad-Libs"!

Name Option 1:
1. Adjective
2. Plural Noun
3. Adjective
4. Noun
Your new Monk Order

1 + 2 + of the + 3 + 4
