| #1teknolaizMay 06, 2008 7:26:25 | I don't know what to expect by posting this and asking these questions, but since I am still relatively new to D&D (only started playing once a week within the last year), I know that some of you would have much better advice then anything I could google up. I made a character for a text game (MUD) a while back, and I really liked him. I even have some nice artwork for him as well. His race can be described as smaller and more agile version of your normal human. I figure, D&D halflings are very similar to this, if not a perfect fit - correct? They are not your halflings from EQ1 or Lord of The Rings. They seem to be small fit humanoids. Another thing about his race however is he had fangs that he could secret poison into. This is the tricky part, I know the DM would work with me a bit as long as I am not doing something utterly ridiculous - or something that could just not possibly fit into his campaign. Any suggestions? Any crazy prestige class out there that fits this description? Even if they were teeth covers or something I inserted to get this effect it wouldn't matter, it could even be more of a roleplaying gimmick. Also, I heard poisons can be a pain to calculate effects for (since a lot of them are like.. -con blah blah.) Any tips for this? Also, I am interested in using a Whip as my main weapon. I could equip a bow for longer range. It would be nice to secrete poisons onto my whip and arrows as well. I would like to be stealthy and assassin like. I don't want to be gimp but liking my character and being able to roleplay what I want comes way before min/maxing for me. I am creative enough to come up with my own solutions to in game dilemma's. Does anyone have any suggestions on what source material I can use for these ideas? Or really any sort of ideas period? Throw me a bone here! ;) Thanks! |

Poison will be an expensive and ineffective one shot even if you devise a means to employ it that way. Assassin concept characters can work, provided you avoid the assassin class and don't try to do it that way. |

Prevenom Weapon causes your currently equipped weapon to secret a constitution-damaging toxin. 2 points of CON damage on a failed save, 1 power point to manifest, and the stuff stays on your weapon until you hit. Save DC is based on your manifester level, however: 10 + 1/2 manifester level + INT modifier. Multiclassing with Warblade would synergize well with having a high INT and give you a few additional tricks to use in combat. Depending on how many levels of PsyWar you take, you can even do the fang thing. Bite of the Wolf is a Level 1 power which grants a bite attack. No way to do the venomous bite, however. However, I agree that using a whip is a bad idea. It's pointless as a weapon beyond Level 1, and even then it's questionable. Assassins with actual Assassin levels are best used for one-shot NPCs. Trying to make a career out of Death Attacking anyone other than other low-level NPCs is difficult at best. |

| #6kelvinaw273May 07, 2008 1:55:06 | I would suggest a new variation on the Shifter race from the Eberron Campaign Setting - a 'venombite' shifter? Shifters are thought to be descended from lycanthropes, and once or more per day they can 'shift' to a slightly more 'animalistic' form for a limited period and gain a power, such as a bit attack, claw attacks, scent, speed, climbing etc. and a +2 bonus to a stat. You could take a less damaging (1d3 damage?) poisonous bite instead of a longtooth shifter's powerful bite (1d8 damage). Shifters can increase their power with various feats. Favoured class is Ranger and ability modifiers are +2 Dex, -2 Int and Cha. |

| #8kelvinaw273May 07, 2008 11:06:27 | Depends. 1d2 ability damage on a 1d3 bite a few times a day is not game breaking, or worthy of a level adjustment compared to a 1d8 bite if you use the idea of a Shifter above. You can then use later feats to improve the poison damage - Venombite Elite could improve the damage to 1d4 stat damage, Greater Venombite to increase the save DC by four. Using high level feats and feat trees scales the ability to suit the experience level. |
