Aug 19, 2008 22:27:53 Alright, so here's the deal, I really want to blow my DM away right off the top with a crazy rogue build. We're starting at level 1, so it's all built from scratch. But does anyone have any really crazy rogue builds that go into a casting prestige class? I'm looking for something really broken here, I have a warlock starting with 3d6 for his attack at lvl 1. Help me out guys!

Aug 19, 2008 22:56:45 I would advise to find a prestige class that has access to illusions and divination if not giving them a boost while still giving you a sneak attack bonus.

A diviner/rogue prestige class is the Unseen seer. You need to be about level 5 - 6 to get into it. +1 level to arcane spellcasting abilities each level. By level 10 you would have an additional +4d6 to sneak attack. At level 2 you gain silent spell. Average base attack bonus. Has a d4 for hit dice. At 3 different levels you can add a divination spell to your spells known (divination help to circumvent the DMs plans and can really make DMs angry). Caster level is higher for divine spells. At level 5 you are protected by nondetection, it is permanent. Has nearly as many skills as the rogue has and 6+int mod in skills per level.

The main reason why this is a strong class IMO is because you have automatic access to silent spell. Use invisibility to hide and use silent spell to cast spells silently. You can buff yourself up before going in for a sneak attack. You can slowly sneak up so that you can get a full attack on the opening round. You can summon creatures without losing your invisibility. You can walk past monsters and use spells to bypass wall to get to treasure.

I do not have any knowledge that blend the rogue and the illusionist. If their is one then I would suggest using it.

Aug 19, 2008 23:33:49 My advice is to stop being a DB and play a character that is not meant to irritate your GM. This game is not about winning, and intentionally looking for a broken build is just a jackash maneuver in my book.

1) Play a human.
2) crank bluff through the roof
3) make sure your attack bonus is as high as possible
4) there is a feat, i believe in Complete Scoundrel, that allows you to deal an extra 1d6 damage with a light blade when fighting defensively.

Take improved feint to make feinting easier, this will allow for easier use of bluffing to get a sneak attack. Put 5 ranks in tumble as soon as possible to keep your AC high while fighting defensively so you can afford to miss a little.

This build suprised my DM when I manage, at first level, to take out 4 orcs by myself.

You won't have a really high to-hit compared to a well built fighter... but you will be dealing 2-3d6 on every attack starting at 1st level.

Edit: also... even though going Spellwarp Sniper (complete scoundrel) can really be nifty... since it allows you to turn things like fireball into a ray that you can sneak attack with... sticking single class and prestige classing as soon as possible is a better plan in this case, I suggest Thief Acrobat for increased defense while using the fighting defensive trick... that way you can live to deal out some damage. After thief acrobat though, picking up a caster class so you can go spellwarp sniper does open up some very high damage possibilities.

As soon as you hit a +59 diplomacy mod anyone who sees you instantly is helpfull in a standard action. Game over, youve got a really broken 3.5 rogue. (epic handbook has higher DC, but i dont remember them)

Class progression
1 rogue/ X sorcerer. you want as few non caster levels as possible thanks to the balance between caster/noncaster.In addition, sorcerer gets bluff as a class skill. easiest way to get high ranks. Also prestige class asap, but make sure you get bluff as a class skill and full casting. Anything will work who cares what benefits it gives, they are more than straighht sorc.

Thats something really really broken. Enjoy.

Do you have a rough idea of what you want your guy to do? something more than simply be broken and cast spells?

Might help get you better advice.
