Greetings,

So the title is more of a general feeling towards undead. To sum up, our party went against 5 shade type creatures. The shades were insubstantial, had phasing, aura 2 (5 damage), and all sorts of fun attacks.  It turned out that only one character had any divine attacks, and he was stunned 60% of the time and could not get into range for the attacks. So for the most part we had to do double damage the whole battle. Enough of the wine, I'm looking for the cheese.

I run a Warlord and would like to add a Holy-Divine-Radiant type Attack/Item to my arsenal. My first thought was a getting a Holy Symbol but I dont have the skill for that. The character does have Dol Dorn as a followed deity. OK, retrain, Multi-class into Paladin. When reading the info on Holy Symbol, it notes that you only get the benefit from a holy item when you use it for a power that has the implement keyword. Does that mean you cannot use the Holy Symbol implement for a Melee Basic?

I know you can silver a weapon, is there a way to bless items in 4e?

I bet there are better ways to get a Attack/Item that works good for mundane battle and undead type battle. Any fun ideas?

A warlord has few options for radiant damage without multiclassing, you are correct. May I ask what level you are? Race? Int or Cha?

Grab a Sunblade (or Crusader's Weapon, or maybe Melegaunt's Darkblade), or if you're high enough level, a Radiant Weapon.

You don't need Divine to screw with Shadow-typed creatures, you need Radiant, and that's simple enough to get hold of.

Just turned 8, Shadar-kai, Cha based bravo.

I have a Vanguard Longspear and would not like to switch due to the + d8. I think I understand that if I did use a Holy symbol to strike through my longspear that I would not get the vanguard effect. This is OK. When not battleing undead/shade type I will get the vanguard effect.

Is there a Holy Symbol that converts damage to radiant? How about a Ki focus?

A holy symbol is an implement and cannot, in general, be used for weapon attacks.
A ki focus works how you describe, but there aren't any radiant damage ki foci (also, you would need to multiclass to even use one if there were).

If you anticipate this being a campaign-long theme, you may wish to get a radiant damage backup weapon and just physically switch weapons when facing undead.  If it is uncommon, maybe see if you can get some Glowstones? This works better if you have a good amount of forced movement in the party.
