Take a look at the lycanthrope template and apply it adjusted for the stats of a dog. Its nearly the same as a werewolf.

It's possible to make a lycanthrope template for any carnivorous or omnivorous animal or dire animal in the Monster Manual, dinosaurs included. I've experimented with quite a few, and have uncovered some pretty nice ones.

I'll bring my notebook with me tomorrow, and post some of them for you.

I'm suddenly thinking of a were-pterodactyl or some other *HUGE* dinosaur...

Thanks for the tip

Okay, I brought my notebook. Just by flipping through, I can see a bunch of good ones.

Dire Wereape(effectively a giant gorilla)
Dire Werebat(Manbat, anyone?)
Dire Werelion(awesomeness)
Dire Werewolverine(giant raging ball of badass)
Werevelociraptor(using the stats for the Deinonychus)
Weremegaraptor(Velociraptor ++)
Werebaboon(Only a +4 total LA, HD included, with a climb speed of 30)
Werepolarbear(Teh secks)
Werecheetah(50 ft speed, +6 total LA)
Werehyena(+2 Str compared to werewolf, same LA)
Wereleopard(pounce, rake, win)
Werelion(Dire Lion light)
Dire Wereweasel(Buahahahahaha)

Let me know if you want the individual stats for any of them, or you can look them up in the MM3.5

Werefleshraker is *very* dangerous too. I should make one to throw against my players... ooh fleshraker with martial adept levels...

Hmmm +6STR +8DEX +4CON and a whole load of nasty abilities... That could be a terrible encounter.

Weredeinonychus is great. Also, the real Werevelociraptor, using the stats in ECS (clawfoots for the less infomed) are also pretty badass at a lower LA.

Dire Wereweasel(Buahahahahaha)

With the warbeast template. Because "weredirewarweasel" is just amusing to say.

Dire weasel is actually pretty good though. That's a lot of Dex for only 3 animal HD, Weapon Finesse as a bonus feat is handy, and blood drain is good for getting folks to stay the hell away from you if you prefer being ranged.

Clawfoots are really nice as well, come to look at them.

I have a weredog in my campaign, as has been said, just use the rules in the MM. The allignment should probably be LG or LN. If the allignment is a problem, it can be explained as loyalty to pack, not necessarily human laws.
It's a great lycanthrope for urban adventures where turning into a dog (out of sight of course) is almost as good as turning invisible. It's fun to have a weredog rogue snatch someone's purse and run down an alley, then change and walk right past the angry villager looking for their stuff.

Oh, it can only apply to carnivores? Drat, there goes my Dreaded Were-Cow NPC. Uuuunless... she's a feed-lot cow being fed cattle bits... then I can have a Were-Cow who also transmits 'mad cow' prions! Sweeeeeeet.

Vampire Were-Cows. Who turn into cows in the daytime and can go outside. Works best on unsuspecting parties when the locals know you shouldn't go out at night, don't eat meat (and are terrified of those who do), and don't seem to interact with the cows at all.

There are instructions at the template. Monster Manual page 175-178 or here.

Why a dog? Were-creatures are supposed to be predatory, animalistic, and very savage; a dog does not fit that descriptor. Dogs are a domesticated creature - man's best friend, not frenzied animorphs who succumb to the lust for blood and gore in the pales of moonlight.

Just breaks tradition...

The statistics presented here describe a fairly small dog of about 20 to 50 pounds in weight. They also can be used for small wild canines such as coyotes, jackals, and African wild dogs.

But I think the OP probably is meaning a 'real' dog, so my point is kinda invalid.

I thought about those too, and I was going under the assuption of a domesticated breed as well.

Besides, if you look at the percentage of non-domesticated were-creatures versus domesticated were-creatures; well, I think you see my point.

Don't mock, those things'd definitely be CE lycanthropes.
