The last PC I ran was back in 1e. Everron Silverstar (Ooh! If only I'd changed that V to a B, I could claim Keith Baker was ripping me off!), a half-orc fighter. He only got to level 4 before I was thrust into the DM's chair for good.

I was recently put back into the PC chair so a friend could try his hand at DMing, but it never really took off, so here I am again. Sigh!

Droog Sunaxe is a orc veteran of the 82nd Orc Brigade, formerly stationed close to the Spine of the World. He favors a halberd in melee and javelins at range. He focuses on keeping the group together, and most recently was instrumental in persuading a group of bandits to join with the party in forming a private mercenary group. (Orc Fighter, level 1, going Pit Fighter once he hits Paragon)

Haen Skysong is an elvish archer from close to Luskan. In his party he focuses on scouting ahead, ambushing the enemy, setting traps, and tracking targets. Currently, he is leading the party to a group of kobolds who have been raiding caravans. (Elf Ranger, level 4, not sure what PP yet).

Have a couple of others, but these are the most interesting.

One Human Fighter named Landis Silverflame, Level 4 and uses a bastard sword and Javelins.. "soon" to have a Javelin of Lightning... (What I have a fixation with throwing lightning at people) He is claustrophobic, racist against Small sized humanoids (especially kobolds and gnomes) to the point where he has been known to occasionally brute strike a kobold minion here and there. (whistles innocently) he used to be a bodyguard, but since his girlfriend died thanks to Irontooth (his reason for doing kots) he's a lil more leaning on psychotic beat down specialist.

One Level 11 Aasimar Shadow Assassin Rogue Wizard. Vincent Aradaine. Rapier, dagger, shurikens. He's now a wandering bard who was part of an assassination specialty troupe known as the Crimson Moon. he and a few other's killed the insane former leader of the chapter, and he took over the troupe. He's currently trying to shape it into becoming a real troupe of bards rather than an organisation of assassins. Prefered magic, is Ice magic. (this was before fourth edition. Still is post.. just now makes all the more sense is all *whistles innocently*)

One Level Three Human Paladin Named Caristarius Silverblade. Soon to have cleric multiclassing I think. Axes. Because Axes are awesome like that. Used to have an incredibly well done backstory but I axed it, to put him into a new setting.

One Level Twenty One Sword Mage (assualt duh) Ranger with the Anarch of Shyr (no I've not picked a Destiny yet) , Genasi named Ricalean. Two longswords. From Mulohrandi. He and his friends were frozen in stasis, as a result of the spell plague being unleashed into faerun. To say that he and his friends were in the shock of their lives when they emerged from the magical stasis is a vast understatement. Specializes in Lightning and Thunder magiks.. (I told you have I have a fixation with throwing lightning at people)

One Level Twenty Four Aasimar Ranger Cleric, Angelic Seeker (eternal seeker and angelic avenger) Michael Aradaine. (Two bastard swords) story too long to really summarize effectively.

Level One Half Elf Cleric female named Crysitania who uses a spiked chain.

Level two Human Fighter Isaac Stormreaver. Armed with flails. (Dexterity style) May or may not pick up multiclassing in the future. Seeking to out do his father in every way. Or at the very least escape from under his father's shadow.

I've only really gotten to play one of these IRL and that's Landis. The others save for Vincent and Michael have yet to be played. I play those online. (done a very lil bit with Ricalean as well)

I'm not technically playing this character, but I'm thinking about adding him as a DMPC, because none of my player's want to play Leader Roles:

Samael Crimsonhunter, Warlord/Two Blade Ranger; I'm going for the "Wolves of Maldeen" thing with him, so he'll be taking their Paragon Path. Then, I'll probably give him the Demigod or Deadly Trickster Epic Destiny.

Hosea Quinn, Human Cleric of Erathis 1
Call me Quinn, friend. What troubles you?

A bartender and recovering alcoholic, Hosea saw the light when after a particularly violent bout of drinking, he burned down his bar. Though nobody was seriously hurt, he was out of a job. But it seemed his patrons still kept coming to him for a good ear and friendly advice. Hosea began worshipping Erathis, believing that he was born to bring about the spirit of community and, during one of his moments of clarity, he was inspired to seek the "Harmony of Erathis."

Thus, he has set out to help others, settle disputes, and spread civilzation in pursuit of this goal.

Victor, a Warforged Great Weapon Fighter. Commissioned by the Purple Dragons, he did a three year tour of duty alongside 5 other Warforged. He continually has "dreams" of being a Purple Dragon in times past. Originally named Diehard, he took on the name Victor because it was a word continually repeated in his dreams. What he does not know is that Victor was his name from before, when he was an officer (Warlord) in the Purple Dragons, who died in the line of duty. He wields a smooth-sided Mordenkrad, and is seeking his place in the world. He keeps in touch with Reaver, Barrage and Rend, also from his unit.

Reaver, a Warforged Rageblood Barbarian (attempting to break the playtest *eg*). Also commissioned by the Purple Dragons, Reaver is a female persona that is a demon in melee combat. With a viciously serrated Dragonborn-made fullblade and an otherworldly scream, she loves to leap into the thick of battle. She misses Victor's company, but has found gainful employment in Luruar.

Can you tell I like the Warforged?

Salvor, son of Trantor, Dwarf Staff Wizard, Level 9. High-AC & High HP, lots of Close Blasts and Bursts. A Spellcaster that loves to follow the Defenders into the front ranks.

Cleon d'Terminus, Elf Orb Wizard (was level 8 when he died). More tactical, than the previous one. Loves save-imposing effects.

Bel Riose. Human Level 7 Fighter (Glaive specialist). Cleon's replacement. Haven't played with him yet, but will do so this weekend.

These are all 4th Edition characters:

Jaspar Flynn: Halfling Charismatic Rogue; 5th level. I play him as a thrill seeking Indiana Jones type who loves to taunt his opponents in battle.

Droergun Marthe: Dwarven Staff/Orb Wizard; 12th level. Brash, Kord worshipping bruiser...favors thunder and lightning spells. The clothes say spellcaster, the attitude says fighter.

Aghammon: Changeling Orb Wizard; 3rd level. Apprentice spymaster for a nefarious criminal syndicate, plays information broker on the side. Cold, Calculating, ruthless and ambitious. He does have a benevolent side that comes to the fore when practical.

Davan Greenbriar: Half-Elf Charismadin of Avandra, Rogue multiclass for thematic purposes; 6th level. Avaricious, womanizing, risk loving Paladin with the heart of a Rogue.

Brock: Bugbear Dual Battleaxe Ranger; 1st level. Devout follower of Kord, on a spiritual journey to test the limits of his strength. Or so he says...really he's a big dumb thug who likes picking fights. Often falls asleep when the party Wizard is talking.

Still waiting to play a Swordmage, an Archer Ranger, a Samurai Barbarian, and a Kung Fu fighting Cleric.

I only have two D&D characters at the moment. One of them is 3e, the other 4e.

Ridley Stormsong (Human Wizard 2 w/Cleric multiclass) is from the tropical island of Djinncardia, a place closely connected to the Chaos. There he trained to become a Plenneth (a diplomat between the humans and the elementals), but failed because he's too good-natured and not impartial enough. He now travels the world, trying to act in a way that Lady Ioun would approve. Currently mired in cleaning up some of the mess in Punjar...

Laredo Katenekson (Human Conjurer 3 / Master Specialist 10 / Planeshifter 10 / Wayfinder Guide 3) is the king of a country back on his home plane, as well as a High Summoner. After eliminating his corrupt brother and taking the throne, he set up a parliament to manage things in his stead so he and his companions could go on a planar adventure to eliminate a foretold alien threat (mind flayer invasion). After destroying the Overmind, a planar disruption sent the companions to random destinations. Laredo is now jumping around from plane to plane in search of his friends, and has recently become stuck on Faerun, as the deities have taken all the low-level beings from the Material plane and locked down the Astral, Ethereal & Shadow planes. He thinks it's Ao's idea to let the powerful fight amongst themselves and kill each other off, sort of like an epic spring cleaning...

Zane Brennan, level 1 Human Cleric of Avandra focused on ranged prayers and Wisdom.

Zane was orphaned at birth and raised communally in a small isolated village in the middle of a forest. When he returned from a short trip to a nearby village, he, found that in his absence, his home village had been reduced to a smoking ruin with no living residents in sight.

With nothing left for him there, he salvaged what he could and took to the road. He devoted himself to Avandra for protection in his newfound life as a wanderer and adventurer.

Played an elven cleric of the Raven Queen most recently, but now I'm in the DM's chair for that game. Just one adventure, then I'm back in. She uses the longbow and is multiclassed into Ranger to take advantage of shifty goodness.

Undead killed her family when she was younger, and she's devoted herself to making sure the dead stay that way ever since, considers it her divine mission. She's a lot of fun to play, especially since she's so serious and devout, but slightly sub-par for intelligence. Mostly I play it as her taking a while to respond in conversations.

When I'm back out of the chair, I already have a different character in mind, a Drow Rogue. As the second or third daughter of a minor house that has since been discredited and broken up, she wandered up to the surface world to seek her fortune. Her family is decidedly less evil than others, hence being discredited and deposed. One of her more annoying habits is her apparent need to practice dancing every single day (anyone who's anyone must be a skilled dancer, as far as she's concerned. Drawing on real-life Renaissance for this one, where any aristocrat was expected to practice dancing every day). This will usually be accomplished while they're still trying to sleep and she's not, thanks to that whole "trance" thing.

Well, bein' a nat'ral authority wi' a penchant fer pressgangin' scurvy swabs, I falls into the DM role all too often.

Still, I fancy toying with character concepts from time t' time, and the best thing is that D&D 4th edition allows me t' bring back me all-time favourite PCs, some of which I played with other systems.

Murgrim the Wanderer, Dwarf Mercenary
At the first glance, he seems archetypical to the bone. But to himself, all that fighting seems secondary to the pursuit of perfecting his craft as a weaponsmith and engineer. He could stay at place for years to learn the particular forging techniques of a skilled master, but his curiousity and wanderlust, coupled with an almost unhealthy disrespect for authority and a penchant for violent outbursts, often get the better of him.
During his wandering years, he mastered a variety of heavy pointy and sharp objects over the years of adventuring, and forged most of them himself.

Reasons why I wouldn't play him in D&D 3.X: Greataxes were too inferior to greatswords to make a fighter work.
4e: Dwarf Great Weapon Fighter with skill training thievery and maybe trying to master both axes and heavy blades, using the warsmith background from Characters' of War if possible.

Dorellion Nia' Satori, High Elf Strategist (Rolemaster)
Arrogant even by Eladrin standards, Dorellion got kicked out of the Military Academy of Vi'enna (an ancient city famous for its decadence, coffeehouses and intricate bureaucracy) after having an affair with a General's son which he claims he only had to cover up the affair with said General's daughter. After a short stint as an officer of a baron's small guard, he met with a group of other characters... Well, you can imagine the rest.
Dorellion is self-serving, calculating and not above putting his comrades, at least, the disposable ones, into harm's way to save his skinny elven backside. He usually explains that by quoting obscure military rules which he usually makes up on the spot, but he is too lazy to take a note which he already used. But in the thick of the fray, you can count on him using the most underhand tactics to gain the upper hand.
Reasons why I wouldn't play him in D&D 3.X: See the Marshal class in the Miniatures Handbook, any more questions?
4e: Eladrin Tactlord, with Arcana skill and Ritual Casting, being a lazy git using those rituals which require no skill checks or make life easier...

Doktor Indianagnomes, Gnome Rogue (AD&D)
My first AD&D Dragonslance PC was a under-sized mix of both Henry Jones sen., for looks and quirks, and jun. for his bravado and, well, the hat and the bullwhip. He had a penchant for strong drinks and drunk a minotaur, a fellow PC, under the table - take that, Marion Ravenwood! In best Jones' tradition, he got into trouble more often not, but being a Tinkergnome that wasn't all too unusual. His lifequest was the invention of a dungeon-clearing machine that would make adventurers obsolete. The few concept sketches that remain hint of a machine too big to fit through most dungeon entrances. Strangely, his comrades never let him use their homebase city's sewers to test his designs.
Reasons why I wouldn't play him in D&D 3.X: Indy used a rapier and maingauche in AD&D, which would have only worked in 3.5 with some limitations.
4e: Gnome Artful Rogue, Background: Some with History as class skill; Rapier Prof. and Alchemy Feat

Sir Dion Merric Human Inspiring Warlord 11th Level-Knight Commander Paragon Path, he is a devout follower of Erathis and sees it as his task to increase the points of light by destroying regions of darkness.
He wields an enchanted Longsword (aecris) as well as a Battle Standard of Might.
He was raised in a Military encampment and intended to stay and become a leader of the unit, but fell out with the leadership over religion, many of the officers were Bane worshippers and he disagreed with their views about whether the military should rule those they defend, he opposed this so he left.
He is adventuring with

current characters?

Edward Copperhead (semi-retired) : edward was originally created as a fighter in 2nd edition, recreated as a barbarian in 3rd and regressed to a fighter in Mentzer BASIC. currently waiting for the right time to remake him for 4th. Edward is my "classic" fightery-type. a diamond-in-the-rough who, while intelligent, dislikes being in a position where he has to make the choices but can man-up if needed. generally portrayed as a traveling mercenary stopping from town to town looking for work, interesting stories and a good stiff drink. Edward made a name for himself through combat and was known as a powerful headhunter in his last (Mentzer BASIC) incarnation, as well as a local hero. his first two versions were axe weilding two-handers in light armor, so i'm waiting for the barbarian class before recreating him, though the Mentzer version made him a sword+board/heavy armor which was a nice change. either way the preview barb and the current fighter work very well for both incarnations.

Abraham Dollco (currently deceased) : a Mentzer Basic character that died a while ago, Abe quickly became my "classic" magic user : a sly, swift & bright man, as much a thinker as a fighter. in a fight he relied on a few trusty throwing daggers as much as his magic, if not more. the original character was ousted from his homeland and was on the run when he hired an expedition to go scour an abandoned mine for it's perceived treasures. the expedition went awry and many of the hirelings died, and one lost her sight. since then he traveled with her and the only other survivor looking for a cure. this brought him to the keep on the borderlands where he continued to research in his spare time. he died via a large tree-spider attack during an excursion outside the keep, looking for a lost person. currently being ported over to 4th edition as swordmage/wizard with some stealth/theivery training for a FR game.

"Shump" : a 3.5 warlock. Shump started off as a joke character, based off a quote that "D&D characters are the world's most well armed hobos". a little bit smelly, a little bit funny looking and a whole lot of crazy. shump was abandoned as a child on a small island in the inlet the town was built around, an island populated by society's dregs, as he was a unstoppable font of magic. as a child he never got properly trained on how to use his warlock powers and was driven partially mad due to the infernal whispers. he then started hiring himself off as a thug who would do anything for anyone. currently alive and traveling in a boat for his last employer as part of her private guard. while he looks like a bum, he's actually quite well armed with a glamored scale mail (looking like hobo rags) and a magical shillelagh (+1 club) holding the hobo "bundle/bag" on his shoulder. Shump is Cn bordering on Ce as he's willing to go through whoever stands in his way to get the job done from innocent child to city official doing his job, the only thing stopping him is he still has a shred of conscience, though how long it lasts probably depends on how long his sanity will sustain...

Esker : a 3.5 transmuter, not much of an established personality yet as he's only been played for 3 sessions. he's one of the few survivors of a war (along with the rest of the party) where all survivors are cursed (what it does we still don't actually fully know). currently he's one of the more cautious pc's and the "common sense" of the group.

Dave : 4th ed 2-handed fighter/warlock. currently 4th level so he's finally starting to get his warlock tricks up and running. he's more of a cautious character who's willing to use dirty tricks and strongarm tactics to get things done. he's one of my "nastier" characters to say the least as he doesn't show compassion too often due to his sellsword nature. a job is a job, even if it's a "job". he does let loose with his group though, and knows how to have a good time when off duty.

The last D&D character I played was 3.x; an elven Rogue/Wizard/Arcane Trickster (3/5/5, respectively) named Tripantilious (he never gave his last name, although it was known to every elven NPC in the game). He was, ostensibly, an archaeologist who traveled with the group to get opportunities to explore elven ruins on the mainland. In reality, he was a spy for the elven nation which was, at that time, considering returning from its exodus. The entire group was elf-friends by the time we dropped that campaign for 4e, though, so it was hardly relevant.

He's basically infamous for starting fights by throwing his hat with a light spell cast on it into dark places (he'd Mage Hand it back, for the lulz). Our DM would get this very serious look on his face whenever he mentioned a dark area, and ask "What do you do?" My answer was always the same, accompanied by a chorus of groans.

If it wasn't for the fact that I always ruined the DM's BBEG's spellcasting or strategy by being impossible to spot (seriously, 50+ was the average hide result for this character at levels 7-12, go go magic item abuse), and having an absurdly high chance at counterspelling, it was because he'd sneak attack the BBEG and hit for like 1d6+4d6 damage, then cast quickened Invisibility and wait for another opportunity to disrupt. The character also infuriated our munchkin, who had the most ridiculously munchkin'd druid I've seen and still failed to ruin the DM's day as much as my generic, run-of-the-mill Arcane Trickster. I played the character totally straight, too, he was completely oblivious to why he frustrated his companions so frequently. If it wasn't for the fact that he typically kept the encounters under control, I doubt they'd have kept him around. Also, the Bard basically made all the problems the character caused disappear under a rug. The Bard's answer to "What do you do?" was always (always!) "I cast Glibness."

Aramil Batslayer(Phony last name)

Aramil was a squire in a noble Eladrin's court, training to become a powerful knight. The squire served under a knight that was the bodyguard for the noble Eladrin's daughter and Aramil and the maiden engaged in a quiet love affair, however when exposure of this was imminent Aramil fled to Evermeet and from there managed to escape into Toril, he now works as a mercenary in Baldur's Gate but dreams of one day returning to his beloved.

Grezdin Hornfels, Shield Dwarf Ranger of Mistledale, Level 3

Son of a prosperous arms merchant Grezdin soon grew bored of a life of wealth and set out to make a name for himself against his father's wishes. After years spent as a scout for the Misteldale militia Grezdin signed on with an adventuring party known as The Very Nearly Adequate, a group which was sorely in need of a good scout/bolter. He spends his down time from adventuring playing with Thrax (Onyx Dog Figurine) and imagining the look on his father's face when he returns a hero.

Samurai barbaran - someone likes the Crab clan and/or has read about the life of Musashi. ;)

Never played Legend of the Five Rings, never read much about Musashi Miyamoto.

The idea comes from the Samurai 7 anime series, particularly the character of Katsuhiro, the youngest of the group. He is a wide-eyed idealistic youth who is the first to extoll the virtues of the bushido code, and is the picture of Samurai nobility and civility. However, when he gets into battle he goes berserk and wildly tears into foes without the practiced grace or precision of his .

I thought that this was a great concept for a character and I thoroughly plan to mine it for a D&D character.

Jason of Karashi is a 'powerful' wizard from the city of Karashi (or so he claims). This tall, pale man is clearly marked as a plague survivor and intelligent eyes. He is a sly talker, and a strategist. But above all he is a ruthless man who likes to keep everything under control: his temper, his party, his enemies and his mission. He doesn't really like being told what to do, so he generally leads his maurading party towards a destructive end for his home city Karashi. He has been accepted by Krunk, an Hobgoblin chieftain, as a personal warrior. Together they aim to take over Karashi, splitting the city up between the Wizard's Tower and the rest. Jason, of course, intends to take the tower for himself. Currently Jason is a level 4 wizard (4E version)

I've mentioned this character before, but I'll do so again.

My current PbP character is Thieran ac Telecontar, created with a homebrew Bard class. He comes from a culture whose empire is collapsing, and his reason for adventuring is religious in nature - he's a lot like a paladin.

His personality is a mix of David Tennant's Doctor and the Jagermonsters of Girl Genius. He's eccentric but very smart, and is often the giver of random historical facts. He can switch between moody and maniac cheerfulness in a blink, and knows more than anyone else in the party about the part of the world we're traveling in. He's also a quick, wild and enthusiastic swordsman that happens to often be the designated comic relief.

I actually really enjoy playing him, but I need to up his combat ability - last time he charged into the fray he didn't get to take down a single opponent. The dice really, really hate Thieran.

I only have one active character currently.

Raeyn, Drow Ranger
Init +4 HP 24/24 Bloodied 12 Healing Surge 6 (0 used /7)
AC 16 Fort 13 Reflex 15 Will 11 Speed 6
Str 14 (+2) Con 12 (+1) Dex 18 (+4) Int 10 (+0) Wis 13 (+1) Cha 13 (+1)
Backround and Notes

Raeyn always did whatever it took to survive in drow society, being one of the Illsaar(Deep-dwellers), that usually meant using the nature of the caves to shield herself and grant herself oppertunity to strike from afar. But she never once felt satisfied with it. She often found herself at odds with her people's sadistc and hedonistic nature.

What she craved was adventure, and to get away from all that petty ugliness that so bothered her. It was along one of her outings that she found a passage leading to the surface, where she crawled out to witness the Day's sun for the first time in her life.. and since then, she has never returned home.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A bit cliche, but I likes my drow, and its a non-standard world anyways.
Right now I'm DMing but If things fall through and my group don't have enough players we will join with another group in our D&D club.
My character, which I have prepared in case, will be a kobold sorcerer.
Mostly for comic relief, I'll try to work him around the grunt personalities from halo, alternating with a torrent of insane threats: I'll gnaw off your tonsils and stab you with your knee caps!
This all in the highest voice I can manage.
I might have to dodge blows as much as my character on this one.
Talmund Chammodai
Level 6 half-elven warlock (infernal pact) with paladin multiclassing.
Reluctant servent of (We still can't think of a good name for a devil yet). He strives to find a way to renig on the contract signed in his youth. (Devil) insists that he will not only take Talmund's soul, but that Talmund must take the help of (devil). With nothing left to do, he quests the world vowing to help set the agents of evil on the path to righteousness. Afterall, if his soul is doomed, he might as well make sure no one else looses theirs. This often angers (Devil) who has been known to send agents into direct confrontation.
(realized it was a direct Spawn rip session 2. oh well.)
In all honesty, through the powers I selected he works much more as a controller than a striker or defender. Is often known to simply run after enemies to stand next to them, dealing ambient damage. (from the pact blade, paladin mark, and Ice Armor powers, attacks of opportunity when he stands near wizards [his favorite targets]) He also ammasses stupid ammounts of temporary HP, and is fairly resilent.
Well, for starters I'm DMing an Urban campaign, so I get to play a bunch of characters, even if they're NON-player characters :P
But as for being a player:
Warforged Paladin 1
Plate armour, heavy shield, hammers (melee and throwing) and not all that bright. Worships the Silver Flame (Eberron) and is big on mercy, but has no qualms about killing people who didn't accept his offer to surrender.
Basically, he's an old war veteran, who had to protect a city from an invading army (Red Hand of Doom) and failed. All his comrades died in the fight and he fled once it became clear he was out-matched (having already taken out a dragon, a few ogres, a manticore and dozens of goblins, mind you!) and ran for the nearest friendly territory ending up at the border of Thrane.
He spent several years helping a priest of the Silver Flame in his daily duties and actually began to believe himself [: Conversion from 3E Warblade/Swordsage/Crusader to 4E Paladin]. Now, when word reached his ear that hobgoblins are trying to emulate the events from back then he sees his chance to find redemption.
Here's one of mine. It was in a WoW RPG game that my DM ran.
Vrakor, Human Fighter (aka Crocbait)
Vrakor was at sea when a Kraken attacked it. He drifted to the shores of Kalimdor. His head was hit several times, which gave him amnesia. He was taken by Orcs who were looking for a new gladiator for the Blood Arena. He killed a crocodile with a broken stick. Since he lost his memories, the orcs claimed he was a deserter so there wouldn't be a problem with the alliance. Right now he's still fighting in the arena, and has teamed up with a Blood Elf Rogue, a Night Elf Druid, a Goblin Tinker, and a Human Mage.
Currently I'm in one 4e campaign, playing David Freebourne, a human Tactical Warlord. David is inspired by David Drake's "Daniel Leary" the hero of a sci-fi homage to the old "wooden ships & iron men" genre, like Horatio Hornbolower. He's a dashing, impulsive young luitenant, and the rest of the party are either in his unit, or 'partisans' volunteering thier assistance. And, yes, I take the 'leader' role litterally (so far with no major problems).
We have two other campaigns on the horizon, one set in Harn, for which I'm probably going to go with a "High Elf Fighter/Magic-User" (ie an Eladrin Wand Wizard MC:Fighter to Wizard of the Spiral Tower) named Varinhal - whom I really don't have much of a personality for, yet. The other is going to have an odd setting that flits among alternate worlds, I'll be playing a Star Warlock named Derleth (haven't settled on a race for sure, yet) who believes that the reason for all the alternate-world-shifting bedeviling the PCs is that they're chosen by Fate to 'fix' timelines in which should-have-been 'Heros' have willfully turned aside from thier destinies. And, yes, there's a joke in both those names. ;)
Active:
Straxus, Gnoll Swordmage. Originally a thug and leg-breaker in Luskan (FR), when he developped a spellscar he took it as a sign that he needed to change his ways. He's Lawful Good now, taking up the sword and mixing it with his innate Spellscarred arcane powers (classed as a Shielding Swordmage for mechanics) to redeem himself.
Inactive:
Hardhead, Warforged Warlord/Wizard. Went solo after he violated orders and was going to be strung out to dry despite the fact that his idea worked and the order from the higher-ups would have gotten his unit killed.
Kahlan Palance- Human Female Cleric 6 /Radiant Servant of Pelor 3. She is from Khorvaire in Eberron but was summoned to be a plane-walker in Sigil. She recently fell into the river of Styxx and lost her memory during their attempted excape from Baator. Her loyal companions are now trying to help her regain her memory.
Mworag- Minotaur Male Minotaur 6 / Abductor 4. Abductor is a house rule Evil version of the Justicar. Insanely Strong and resilient, surprisingly intelligent, but had a 7 wisdom and 3 charisma.
Risca- Dwarven Male, Fighter 15 / Paladin 1. Was trained as a Paladin, but felt he couldn't help people as much or accomplish as much if he was bound as a Paladin would be. Retained his Lawful Good Alignment until his demise.
Ah, a trip down memory lane.
My first DnD Char was an half-elf bard/wizard named Nyara Ithilwairer. Played her in a 3.5 homebrew. She started off as a bard but I multiclassed her to wizard when I had the option to get a celestial parrot familiar and realized I wanted to make more with the boom. She had silvery hair that she dyed black to fit in more with the humans. I had quite a bit of background for her but none of it really came into game play. Played her till 13th level. In the end, she was considering leaving the group to see what was going on in a different part of the world
Second char: Selia Greenbriar, human ranger. Played her in a 3.5 homebrew. Selia belonged to a secret cult that turned out to be a remnant of the ancient religion that had shaped the land she lived in. Animal Companion was a Pseudodragon named Maven. She was outdoorsy (of course), never carried money on her, loved making and reading maps and was a no nonsense kind of person. Favored enemies were animals and dragons. I think I had the option to pick a third favored enemy but towards the end of the game, we were a little too occupied with saving the world, I think I spaced picking one. I don't recall what level I played her till. In the end, would up working for a halfing as the navigator of his airship.
Third Char: Aurelia Tylii, aka Vina, Aasimar paladin. Played her in a Planescapes campaign. Typical orphan left on the doorsteps of the church of a deity I made up (St. Caecilius). Loved candy and always had it on her till she took an oath to abstain from sweets. Wound up taking up an NPC kid (Rilek!) as her cohort. Had a 20 Charisma and wound up finding out more about her celestial heritage in Sigil/Ravenloft. Gave up having a mount to take on some ridiculous ability that later let her destroy some bad ass high level wizard in one hit (paired it up with Rhino's Rush...it was pretty sick). Left her in "The 'Loft" with her new comrades on their way back to Sigil and thinking of becoming more involved with the Free League.
Fourth Char: Xenlethian, aka Xenley. 3.5 Elf druid that was in an order that revered plants above animals and practiced cannibalism . I have been told he is everyone's favorite char that I've made. Extremely inept socially, he found it very hard to speak with others and used the fewest amount of words necessary to get anything done which led to issues several times when he declined to explain certain things to his comrades. He hates humans as a people group (because one "tricked" his beloved twin sister into marrying him, or so he believes), weaves baskets and statues of weird forest type creatures in his spare time and kept a tin of his special jerky on him. His animal companion was actually a plant companion, a carnivorous flower with legs. I think he reached 3rd level; left him saying goodbye to his comrades and planning on going back to his order where he would most likely have to explain why he thought burning down a swath of blighted forest was necessary.
Fourth (and current) Char: Tavera/Tavi/Point: 4th edition half elf rogue. Sold to pay off her father's gambling debts at a very young age, she's worked quite a few jobs in her life. Taken in by a prostitute when she ran away from a particularly cruel mistress, she was later kidnapped by a master thief and taken in as his apprentice. She's a reader of people and friendly enough, involved in an organization that prides the art of thievery, seeing it as a craft. Point prefers to move around, making friends if she thinks they will be financially beneficial to her in the end. She is traveling far from home in order to make a name for herself and to see if she can work using her own wiles, out from under the care of the man she views as her father.
And then there are the NPCs...I think that is one of my favorite parts of DMing. Coming up with the supporting cast.
Are...are you serious?
Yeah. Swords and Sorcery published some books (3.5) that have the WoW world detailed. Why? Are you a WoW hater? We actually roleplay in it too, you know. As for killing the crocodile with the broken stick (we treated it as a club), an 18 STR, power attack, and a crit really helps. We all expected me to die. Why is this so hard for you to believe?
okay this might take a while:
Kallen Half-Elven, Half Elf (duh), Level 12 Cleric, Bard, Favored Soul
Galanath, Half Elf level 12 Rogue, Ranger, Guardian of Life (homebrew prestige class)
Dri'el Do Maridour, Drow level 14 Rogue, Fighter, Palladin (long story)
Alexander Ehloness Ne Naulus, Human level 10 Marshal
Galen, Half-Elf level 11 Rogue, Swashbuckler, Warblade
Lars Owen, Human level 6 Fighter Knight (current character)
Orion Lockwood, Human level 10 Monk (with Half-Celestial template)
(Funny thing is, all these characters are technically still active. My wife has problems running games for characters of level ten or higher and we get bored once in a while and change things up. All but one (Kallen) are solo characters)
I also have some lower level characters from a couple campaigns that just didn't take off for whatever reason
Kendral Veltrane, Half Elf level 4 Spellthief Duskblade
Erran Riverheart, Human level 2 Barbarian Bard
Kaleldric, Grey Elf level 5 Duskblade
Ian McNamara, Human level 1 Wizard
