The What's a Player To Do? forum is a catch-all location for players to get help on a variety of problems, ranging from mechanical issues with a character all the way to social issues brought about by their group. If you, as a player, have a problem this is a place to discuss it. Does that mean I can ask rules questions here? Yes, you can. Be aware, however, that there's likely better places on the Wizards of the Coast forums to ask those questions. You're also free to cross-post your question to two forums. If you post it to more than two forums, it might be considered spamming, which will get you in trouble with the moderators. Moderators? We have moderators on this forum? Yes, we do. Any user you see with a name beginning with the "WizO_" tag is a moderator. In the past, the WizOs were assigned to specific forums; a recent change in their structure, however, has removed that. Now, the team works set shifts, and any moderator on duty may respond to a problem - even one not familiar with the forum. How do I inform the moderators of something I see that I think is a problem? If you see something you think is a problem, you can contact the moderators by clicking on the red triangle () that appears in either the top right or bottom left of every post, depending upon your settings. This will take you to a form that you can use to explain the problem to the moderators. Be as specific as possible, so that they have as much information to work with. The more detail you give the moderator, the better able they'll be to make a good decision. Are there any other groups I should know about? There is a volunteer program called the "Forum Leaders." Eventually, every forum on the Wizards of the Coast message boards will have at least one forum Leader. That person interacts with the community, gathers problems and suggestions to take back to the Community Management team, and helps the community. For this forum, the Forum Leads are DrMorganes and Zherog. You can find out more about the forum lead program by visiting the [forum=724]Volunteer Community Lead Program[/forum] forums. Another group that's important to this forum is the Volunteer Community Leader (VCL). These folks make editorial decisions as suggested by Forum Leads, and pass the request on to the Community Management team at WotC to actually be implemented. For this forum (and all the other D&D forums), the VCL is Webster. There are other groups you'll see that don't particularly have a direct impact on this forum: Gamemaster, Scribe, and UnCon Prizewinner. Gamemasters are individuals empowered to help run one of the games over in the play-by-post community. The forum they run is usually linked as a Custom Title under their username. Scribes are individuals who work to make the community more informed by compiling information such as FAQs, lists of important links, and so on. Finally, UnCon Prizewinners are folks who won a contest during a previous incarnation of UnCon -- the Unconventional Convention that runs on the forum every fall, except 2007's, which was canceled due to management folks at WotC being busy with stuff such as the moderator reorganization, the Gleemax launch, and so on. I see lots of posts with a button that hides text. How do you do cool things like that? Like most other bulletin board systems, this forum uses "code tags" to format text. Ideas, new questions, cool links you think other players would be interested in, expanded answers -- whatever. It's all good. If you would like to debate anything from the FAQ, I would very much appreciate if such conversations were taken to a new thread.

#8 Zherog May 20, 2008 14:17:11	I've just added the The Tome of Summoning to the Important Links section. This spiffy document compiled by a user named Jutter contains stat blocks for just about any summoned creature you can think of in 3.5 - from creatures pulled out of a bag of tricks to creatures from the summon monster IX spell, it's probably here. Note that the user has limited bandwidth at the moment, so if you receive errors, try again later. Hopefully my recommending him doesn't totally wreck his bandwidth limit forever.
#9 Zherog May 23, 2008 13:35:49	Just FYI: Once the forum reorganization settles down, I'll be making updates to the FAQ to get the details up-to-date. I'll also be separating stuff out into 3.5 and 4e sections, so that the document has room to grow going forward with the new edition. I'll once again be relying on everybody to provide updates as 4e becomes more understood.

Give me useful links -- even if you think it's something obvious, give it to me anyway. What sort of links? Anything that would help a D&D player (of any edition): character sheets, power cards, useful threads, funny reads, whatever. If you think it's interesting or useful, chances are somebody else will too. I also intend to rewrite and reorganize the FAQ part of this thread. Is there any new material it should cover? Reductio ad WoW. Translated to "reduction (or argument) to World of Warcraft". Generally the argument is in this form "World of Warcraft has X or something like X, therefore X must be either 1. contrary to roleplaying, 2. undesirable, 3. and/or bad." This is both a type of questionable cause and association fallacy. After all World of Warcraft has elves, dwarves, and gnomes. I doubt that anyone will complain that those are elements that are bad for Dungeons and Dragons. Instead each element should be judged on its own merits rather than it existing or being like something in World of Warcraft. Other variations of this fallacy using other controversial and/or disliked subjects are possible, including , but not limited to, sci-fi, video games, and anime This is adapted from the Reductio ad Hitlerum fallacy.

I know there's no current easy link to those groups as a whole, but even just to the old PbP section that's going to get locked might help. Just about everyone posted a link to their respective new group anyway. And I'll be sure to come bugging you again if I get my wish of a specific PbP group area in the new Community.

#28 myt3m0w53 Aug 29, 2011 13:41:18	i started using the old geleemax stuff right at the end and have been away for about 2 years...  i remember seeing people characters done up with cool stat blocks and stuff but i cant for the life of me remember how to do those things myself...   Whats a new player to do??  how can i make those cool posts with pics in them and little boxes that pop up when you click show? is there a place somewhere in the wonderful world of the wizards community that has a listing or tutorial of those commands?
