| #11337DnDMTCn3rdFeb 07, 2011 6:01:22 | Ok my party was poking around in undermoutain and discovered an extra level in its structure. A research facility that is as big as the whole undermoutain map.
There my space pirates along with teams of biomancers are subjecting goblins, elfs, dwarfs, humans etc. to horrific metroid mutation and genetic experiments using a substance called phazon.
They chose leave them alone. I want to know what you would do in a situation like this. State your intentions in character. |

In a situation like this what I would do is look at my DM and say "Are you high"?

Shadowrun is really good and has fantasy elements with its sci-fi. You might find that a bit more to your liking. A huge lab subjecting dwarves, elves, etc to horrific experiments would be right at home in that game, rather than an element you are awkwardly shoe-horning in. |
| #4tomshamblesFeb 07, 2011 14:22:32 | D&D works perfect, it's just a matter of selective technology use and revamping some concepts. Core aspects are perfect otherwise if you can accept that it's a sci-fi world based around sword, bow, and magic warfare (Which many sci-fi worlds incoporate anyways).
As for the lab:
Maybe we should try to kidnap one of these biomancers and see what they're up to, rough him up a bit and make him "compliant". Maybe we can find out the best way to destroy this lab, if that's possible for our current skillset. |
| #51337DnDMTCn3rdFeb 07, 2011 20:17:03 | I find it fun to mix time periods around. plus I always have to have my sci-fi stuff too.
Allow me to explain my character to you.
He is a tarkatan samurai warrior. Because of his brutality in battle and the fact he is always covered in the blood of his enemies he is called The Crimson Demon.
However he is a paradoxical creature. You see tarkata are insatiable when it comes to battle and bloodlust yet the crimson demon is often reluctant to go to battle.
Also despite never taking his red phazite battle armor off and having his katana and two retractable arm blades that can slice through plates of steel, he often disappears when there is an encounter or fight.
He is invincible in battle when he does fight, however he relies on his hi-tech weaponry more then his katana or blades.
He says he cannot survive with out his built in holo-computer or satellite grid. If they are unavailable he retreats back to his sanctuary fortress, a hi-tech mountain facility that is protected with an impenetrable security and defence system.
This place is connected to the intergalactic internet or outernet as some call it. He receives so much data there that you can see it as a sort of digital rain. when it someone else's turn to DM my group always let's me keep my technology because otherwise my character will not leave the sanctuary fortress.
So like is said its a paradox. He is more then capable of taking on any foe without problem but he hides himself everytime there's a fight going on. In fact the first thing he does when he encounters a foe, he scans it and then make a run for the exit unless the person railroads me. |

I shoot the first space pirate in the face with my plasma rifle. Then I Yell, "Give me the phazon bitches! Or I'll melt your faces!!!!"

| #7mock26Feb 08, 2011 1:42:10 | I would ask, "Are we on Expedition to the Barrier Peaks camera?"
|
| #8medhia_noxFeb 13, 2011 21:09:20 | I would call Doctor Who - then, being part of Torchwood - Gwen, Captain Jack, and myself would save those poor aliens from evil mutagen phazon! |
| #9RPJesusFeb 15, 2011 23:42:17 | Might rescue the goblins, but **** the rest of em. They can generic their way out of trouble, right? . |
| #10FlashbackJonFeb 17, 2011 12:29:51 | "Zis lab is relevant to my interests. Might I subscribe to your newsletter regarding all current und future horrific biological experiments?" -Doktor von Achtung, Android Nightmare |
| #11crowscapeFeb 19, 2011 18:46:19 | I'd search for a secondary entrance to the lab; something that is around two minutes and thirty seconds away from the self-destruct triggering mechanism in the core. |
| #12sallaFeb 19, 2011 22:52:28 | " ... am I in the right game?" |
| #13medhia_noxFeb 20, 2011 11:24:47 | OOhhh.. that's metagaming. |
| #14sirkaikillahFeb 20, 2011 14:15:38 | BLAME!!!! I shoot the next space pirate in the face with my plasma rifle. Then I pull out my orb of awesomeness and summon a "hypernix" globe of invulnerability, being a hypernix globe of invulnerability I am granted Immunity to all damage until the end of encounter. (Yeah its device of my own creation my Pc aquired while I was Dming a secret scenerio for my Pc with out the current Dm's knowledge.) Then I scream, "Which one of you bitches want to eat hot plasma next? Give me the Phazon!" |
| #15CaptainPicardMar 02, 2011 14:12:20 | They'd probably roll their eyes, the Rogue complaining that everyone has a secret underground lab with lasers, mutants, and robots, and then blow it up. As soon as Phazon comes up, though, the fourth wall bashing will begin in earnest.
I'll one-up you. After finding a secret underground lab under the main city in the campaign setting, my PCs wound up flying a black, V-shaped flying machine through a wormhole in said lab, and crashing in 1947 in Nevada, near Area 51. After escaping from Area 51 (with the help of a cute blue-skinned alien girl with 50s-style rayguns and a flying saucer), they took refuge in the town of Poiche nearby - only to have it revealed that a Drow mad scientist detected that the wormhole had been opened again (she had been there since 1850, and had given the world most of its technology through her super-science and magitek) and set forth to TAKE OVER THE WORLD with her mutant spider army (including atomic spiders and lava spiders) bred in her secret underground lab, and use the wormhole to call in backup from the main setting.
The PCs, deciding that they would need to save the world (again) did science at a 40s-era radio (The Rogue is amazing at technobabble) to seize control of President Truman's sudden, spider-related public address, and assure him that they've "got this one".
I like using D&D as the setting for these things because 4e captures the sort of high-power game I want to run, and in the end, is there really that much of a difference between orcs, dragons, and wizards and space pirates, giant robots, and aliens? |
| #16AlanBruceMar 03, 2011 22:28:20 | If I were in a secret lab, i'd probably had found it by accident, running from some sentient Flesh Golem with the Pseudonatural template slapped on it and dressed in a thick, black overcoat. Once i manage to hide within the complex from the monster, I would try and find an alternate route. During my search of the facility, there is a high chance i'd have to fight or run through humanoid zombies dressed in workman outfits, fight a few mutated troglodytes whose skin has dissolved, in order to provide better muscle dexterity and with the Feral template added for good measure. Run around different levels of the facility uncovering obscure parchments that detail the grizzly experiments conducted here and the names of many important noble houses scattered around the world.
Finally, solve some ridiculous riddle involving an ornate replica of a stirge made from diamonds whose 4 wings have been dettached and scattered everywhere in the complex for some reason. Make the ornament whole, use it as a key to unlock a door leading to a giant vat of alchemist's fire and proceed to lower the levers there to sink the whole place. And as I leave the complex, happy by having rid the world of such a madman's dream, I'm comfronted by one of the founding nobles of the complex, who has experimented on herself to the point of becoming an aberration of gargantuan size and terrifying attacks. Luckily, the room where the vat was located contained an experimental weapon that could fire Orbs of Force at will.
They called it a "Linear Launcher" |
