What would you do to make this PC better?

Just had a session last night, and my character seemed incredibly ineffective, so I'm looking for advice on things to improve.

We're in a homebrew campaign world so we're trying to really use every mechanic developed by WotC and other things that look cool. This means there isn't really a focus to our enemies like undead, but it does mean almost anything from any book is available for use.

So here's my character so far, 8th lvl gestalt cleric/wilder. We have 2 melee fighter types, a Master shape changing druid/bard, and a warlock/rogue. My character is trying to fill healing and arcane blaster.

Some flavour character stuff is that this guy really likes elemental spirits (though I haven't summoned often). This is why most powers are elemental in nature.

I haven't been interested in the melee cleric builds which is what I've found almost exclusively, but I am open to suggestions.

Sorry to ramble, this is my first post.

Not the quick response I would have hoped for, so let's clarify some things. I want your help and feedback to improve this character so even brutal honesty along the "what were you thinking about ..." line is useful. I like the character, so salvaging his essence would be nice. There's always Psychic Reformation for my particularly bad choices.

For those of you who are keen for more character context feel free to check out this forum for more details on other PCs and the adventure so far.

Dude.. You are gestalt and have a load of skills.. Just wait a session, perhaps then you can come in and rock the melee guys. Be patient. Let your friends have some spotlight time.

I don't know that I'm being impatient. Most of my skill checks have been less than either the Rogue or the Bard which you would tend to expect. Not the best example for a character strength.

Last session was also #11 or 12 (we've been going from first), and I've had this concern since about session 3. This was just the first time that over half of the 6 hour session was spent doing very little.

Thanks for being the first to comment though!

May I suggest posting this in the Character Optimization boards?

Didn't see that when I started it, but I would happily move it if I knew how. Should it be flagged to ask a moderator to move it?

So I restarted the thread here in the CO boards. Let me know if there's anything else I should do.

What is the character's personality, and backstory?

I again direct you here for the new CO version of this.

But character wise I'll start with backstory. So Anshuman is from a desert nomad tribe and has lived as a goat herder for ~20yrs. Then while he's out looking for water, which as a genasi allows a small group travel further in the desert, a messenger from his tribe tells him the Vizier in the nearby city is after him. So he runs. Hides in the desert for a few weeks.

Eventually some traders cross his path and he convinces them to let him follow. He arrives at this bordertown, and some **** goes down and he joins up with these other adventurers. From there, more adventures. More details here

As for character personality, Anshuman is hot-tempered, inquisitive, and has strong values. He is very interested in spirits of an elemental nature, or that's how I've justified the focus on elemental powers and the water domain. Also related to the Earth Devotion (C Champ).

I'll check into why this thread was closed, but in the mean time, I am re-opening it so the discussion may continue.
