| #1luke409Feb 19, 2010 12:41:12 | So Im currently playing in a campaign as a half orc Barbarian named Krog with his double sided battle axe Gloria! To recap my latest session with my group, we had a huge battle with Gnolls where they captured us, I however in a net, managed to break free of two grapples, performed perfect handle animal and ride checks on an enemie's horse and proceeded to perform two hilarious hit and runs trampling the poor gnolls. Then challenged the lead Barbarian gnoll of the tribe that captured us and killed him in two attacks even though he was a level higher than me! So now I am knocked unconcious because of a high dose of non-lethal damage and will soon be able to recover and I'm wondering what should I do? One member of my group was still captured and is currently running for his life from the gnolls who saw him escape before we were sacrificed to the gnoll shamans. So my question is this, how can I roleplay properly to possilby gain myself an army of gnolls!? I want to become their new highest ranking warrior since I beat their best in a test of strength, yet I have to be able to deal with the leader of the whole tribe(I beat his right hand man) and deal with his left hand a very bad tempered and old Gnoll Shaman. How can I make this work in my favor? |

While it may be fun to have an army, the game that he is running might not be compatible with such an idea, and this has to be taken into consideration. If the DM is ok with the idea, this might be workable. However if he isn't really into this, then consider an alternative plan that doesn't involve an Army. As for how. This sounds like a 3.5 edition game. In which case there is mechanics for this, to be found in the DM's guide, which determines the skills nad feats you need and how they work. More specifically it details how many followers you can have accordingly, which sets a balanced limit on how big an army you could hope to lead. You would have to make you diplomacy, leadership rolls etc as well as some serious roleplaying. As far as I can see, I don't think it would work well. You are a Half Orc and an enemy of hese gnolls. I don't think they would be inclined to follow an enemy challenger of a different race. While a barbarian tribe might choose their leaders by chalengers and victors, this ussually occurs within the tribe. Those chalenging from outside the tribe are not challenging for leadership as much as they are conquering. Also consider that your allies, your group members, are the kobold's enemies as well. They are likely to still view them as enemies even after you take them over, and your group would have to prove their individual merits, considering they too are different races, this would be very hard to swallow for the kobolds to be taken over by a whole group of outsiders. |

Assuming that it wasn't an enemy there's a pretty good chance that if the gnolls are searching for the rest of the people who escaped they'll find you and just take you prisoner again. That being said even if you do manage to kill the leader/hands of the leader doesn't mean the camp will just surrender to you...assuming there isn't a riot some up and comer might just challenge you, or kill you while you're injured and claim leadership. |

As a smal slip up my damage to the gnoll warrior was messed up and we thought I was knocked out because of a high count of nonlethal damage, in the end my DM fixed it by awarding me the points of killing the gnoll but I had to remain knocked out. As for my group were all evil alignment so I'm sure they wouldn't mind me being evil and having followers. If I die in the attempt however my DM has thought about me re-rolling a new character who is a gnoll as well. But I'm hoping my barbarian can pull out another lucky win! My sessions have left me a very lucky orc. |
