| #2shinkirouAug 17, 2008 11:27:59 | Whatever you want really. Wizards help with the fodder but they're not required. Just allow the person to play whatever they take a notion to, and if they really dont know or dont care what they play then suggest a wizard or maybe a warlord. |
| #3NifftAug 17, 2008 15:39:06 | Depends on their builds. If the Paladin and Cleric are Strength-based, a Tactical Warlord would be a great addition. Otherwise, a Wizard or archery Ranger. Cheers, -- N |
| #4riploxAug 17, 2008 16:35:52 | I would say perhaps an archery Ranger, possibly with some Cleric multiclassing, or a Fighter with Rogue multiclass. It's hard to say really. Most of the bases are covered essentially and I feel that you may get tired of having to deal with all the AOE that can hurt your party as well as your enemies if you pick the Wizard. To help you choose, come up with at least a short background for your character and pick what class lends to that best. Also, you can never have too much healing, especially the kind that doesn't use HSs. On a related note, I'm having the same trouble. We have a Wisdom-based Cleric, an archery Ranger, and an Inspiring Warlord. What role should I fill? The campaign I'm in is based on Viking lore and I'm playing a freedom-fighting Dwarf that was freed from a Giant slavery compound/hellhole. I was thinking a battlefield controlling Fighter or a dual axe-wielding Ranger. |

| #6bodyknockAug 18, 2008 10:26:22 | I say go with the wizard. Not just to handle minions better, but also for the free rituals and cantrips, and for the various wizard utility powers that most other classes don't get. The wizard isn't "necessary", but having one is useful. Plus it gives your party more variety, which is the spice of life right? |
| #7CCSAug 18, 2008 14:22:16 | What are you missing? Well, if the reason your considering one class vrs another is based upon making sure that you have various roles "covered", rather than what type of character you want to play, then my answer'd be: The right attitude. |
| #8zdarenAug 18, 2008 15:00:25 | Well I dont want to play a class that wont be as useful as a cleric or a fighter would be in a group that needs it. Me playing a class just because I like that class and doesn't help the group isn't my play style. I'd like to benefit the party before what class I like the most |

No offense to those who suggest it, but I get tired of reading the advice to "play whatever you want." DnD is a team game, and especially in 4ed, any class can be fun and interesting, so why not pick one that fits well with the party? When creating characters I like to think up concepts for every role so I'm excited to play what fits with the group no matter which role I end up with. Wizard would be your best choice. Minion sweeping, and later on the control powers (like walls and zones), are very useful. |
