| #1lem0nheadJun 24, 2009 11:09:01 | Hey ive just got to the stage of a campaign where ive got loads of cash and an opportunity to buy some stuff. When it came down to it i was left with a level 5 item for head or belt, choosing between a skull mask (resist 5 necrotic) and vipers belt (resist 5 posion) and it led me to think, which are the best resistances? Does anyone have any idea on which is the best overall to resist? Like statistically, which monsters use what or the most dangerous type etc... Any thoughts? |

I was in a game where everybody picked up items with necrotic resistance because the DM threw undead at us constantly. The only time the foes weren't all undead was when they had a necromancer or dark priest hanging around them. Anyway, for a more general game, I'd probably think poison, then fire or necrotic, would be the most prevalent damage types. |

I'm currently playing a wizard, and stinking cloud is my highest damage output. Unfortunately, to get the most out of it, I pretty much have to include the swordmages (we have 2) in the area. One of them has a viper's belt and still gets pretty messed up if I successfully hit him, but not as badly as the other one. |

It's very common as a Save Ends damage effect, and because those damage amounts are smaller, item-based resistances will usually mean you take no damage from these effects. As an aside, poison and necrotic are also the worst damage types, as both are ineffective on undead. I don't think any other damage type approaches the same level of immunity. MM2 may have changed this balance. I haven't looked through it yet. |
