When the Die roller is your true opponent

Mar 21, 2009 19:17:44 Well we all know this horror story the bad die day killing off hole parties or just make you character look like the village fool so to start things off here is a good one my dm uses the randomiser invisible castle die roller o boy using a great sword and (thanks to stances and Manoeuvres the damage is 7 d6 + 8 total damage (1,2,3,2,2,5,2 +8) = 25 o boy talk about a long combat when the die roller is helping the DM

So what are your die horror stories?

Mar 22, 2009 1:26:19 Er, your math is off. 1 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 5 + 2 = 17. Plus 8 is 25.

It was a long, long drive back to Florida.

Mar 23, 2009 13:14:20 Well, didn't lose no money in Vegas by it (sounds horrible lol) but I had a character that, by (un)luck of his rolls, just became known as a horribly unlucky character. Created an Elf Archer back in 1997 and rolled Character traits for him; He was a showboater, generally lazy, and fell asleep easy.

In general rolls for combat, all was mediocre. But EVERYTIME I tried to do something along the lines of "showboating"...NEVER turned out good. Shoot a mob from a tree...no problem, keeping balance in that tree...problem. I played him for about a year and a half, he died SO many times by horrible rolls when standing in high/bad places than all of my other toons put together.

Last used him in 1998. Fast forward to about a year ago, I needed an "elder-type" to an elf village so threw him in as an NPC. To make a long story short, big dinners and alot of elven wine led to people wanting to showcase talents (driven by PCs, though not sure role-playing him helped or not). My elf archer called for a servent to put an apple on their head and I rolled the dice for his shot in plain sight for all the PCs to see, cuz either he would hit or his streak after so long would continue. I mean, there really IS no such thing as an "unlucky" toon right? I mean, I probably just had a few bad rolls that came at bad times....right. So I tossed the dice: Rolled a 1 . Rolled to back it up and see how bad it was.......rolled a 1.

REALLY didn't delve too much further into THAT story, but if my PCs ever come across him again...he won't be in charge of anything.
