Here's what I have so far and almost all of this is changeable: Rime was born to Verna, Queen of Winter, a highly powerful Elemental Mistress of the coldest season. She doted on him as a child because he was beautiful with his clear blue skin, white icicle hair and piercing winter pool eyes. But when Rime was ten years old his mother, Queen Verna, was at war with Lord Therarn, one of the high exarchs of the Fire Giant kingdoms. It was a losing war and Queen Verna was desperate for allies. She parlayed with Borge, one of the Formian potentates of the Feywild and he agreed to support her in her war, but at a cost: Rime. Without a hint of hesitation Verna agreed and Rime was traded like a bauble or jewel and left with the Fey. And that was his life, with the beautiful, mysterious, and sometimes terrifying dryads and quicklings and cyclops. He learned the arts of the fair-folk, blade magery. But this too was not to last. Rime was traded again, given as a gift to Tajmiyya, one of the seven djinn sultans. From there he was taken as payment by Sisaket, the Naga for services rendered. The Naga wanted Rime for a component in a dark ritual. It took Sisaket two years to collect the rest of the components of the ritual, including a unicorn horn and teeth from a green dragon. Rime was on a slab, a knife hovering over his neck when Sir Frisian, Knight of Torm raced in and slew Sisaket with the aid of the liberated Rime. Now Rime travels with Sir Frisian, trying to find his place in a world that he has only seen from afar like a caged bird or a pearl in the ring of a monarch. This is where we'll be beginning. I would LOVE feedback and responses. Also, what I am truly having trouble hitting on, is what is his attitude? What is his demeanor? What are his quirks? I was thinking playful rogue but that's been done to death and I want Rime to be as memorable and unique as his origins. Maybe a sort of emo bent, but I've had an NPC when I was DMing who was emo, so I don't want to do that again. I also don't know what his GOALS should be. I would like his ultimate place to be on the Throne of Winter, but should he be seeking it or should that be something that develops later? Any suggestions? Also, I was thinking Swordmage. Other ideas? |

How does Rime feel towards his mother? Though she doted on him early on, the quickness with which she traded him could have soured any warm fuzzies he had towards his mother. Or, if he was young and impressionable, he could be completely willing to take on the role as "thing" instead of person, in order to benefit the "greater good." Now he is with this knight (I am guessing paladin-type person); maybe he is more of a follower than a leader. I am guessing he has a hard time speaking up for himself and tries to be agreeable. Someone who has been traded since very early on is probably passive and being from the Court of Winter would probably be aloof and...cold (couldn't not use the word). At the same time, he probably has a knack for working with different cultures and races since he has encountered many of them. Maybe he's very quiet until called forth to work within a situation and then he shines, using his knowledge and experience with various creatures to assess the situations and work things out. What class is going to be? Any ideas? Maybe if you flesh out this knight person, the answer for Rime will come easier. Not to give you more work. Hope this helps. |
