| #1frenziedberserkMar 24, 2013 17:25:37 | So I am about to start playing a Dwarven Druid in 3.5. I think the idea of this race and class combined is hilarious and awesome, plus I have never played either one before. So that being said I have done a lot of research on how to play a Druid so there is no problem there. However we LOVE to play with unique powers and abilities (most we make up and create a leveling guide for these things) So it is kinda like a free cross class that WE create. So this being said, I would like to see peoples ideas on some stuff that i could add to a dwarven druid. To give a good example we had a paladin one time that we said had a celestial mother and there for had additional water abilities that we created like waterfall, gyzer and stuff and she gained the domain water spells. So It can literally be ANY thing, it just has to make sense and not seem to OP or broken. So please let your imaginations go wild and I will be on the forum all day so i will reply almost immediatley Thank you to anyone who is willing to brain storm with me |

But I would see a dwarven druid as more connected to mountains and stone, as opposed to "standard" druids connecting to forest. I would ask to switch some of the druid's forest-related abilities for mountain/cave-related ones. Nature sense: change the bonus to Knowledge (nature) to Knowledge (dungeoneering) Woodland Stride: The druid's movement is not impeded through any sort of rubble, gravel, or uneven stone. Animal Companion: Some mountain, cave, or underground animal options should be present. Like perhaps a ram of some kind. You would have ot figure out stats for it, I would modif one of the other animals available to a 1st level druid, like a horse, and figure out some kind of charge/headbutt attack. For an underground animal...I dunno...a riding lizard (stats are in one of the Forgotten Realms books), or..petition your DM to allow you to have a Dire Bat earlier (normally in the 4th level druid table). Or perhaps at higher level, you could have an actual earth elemental as a companion (like a small one at level 4, and so on). Perhaps instead of Resist Nature's Lure, you could get ome powers related to Earth, or Cavern domains. For RP purposes, your character could be like, a "stonespeaker" or some other similar title. I would see a dwarven druid's role in his society as someone who speak to the earth to find good caverns fr dwarven settlements, and maybe helps find hidden caches of the earth's riches for dwarves to mine. That's kind of a lot of input. I've actually considered this before. In my campaign world, one of the dwarf minor clans, Gordrivver, has close ties to Primal Spirits (in 4e), and their shamans and druids fill this kind of role, as well as encouraging the rest of drawrevn society to resect and revere the earth which is their home. |

I will definitley be using most of these ideas. I would love to have more information on your clan Gordriwer as well, if you have the time to do so. |

| #6Chiba_MonkeyMar 25, 2013 15:30:37 | I've only got a short write-up for each of the dwarven clans I have already planned out. In my campaign world, there are 5 Great Clans - Orcbane, Trollhammer, Rockjaw, Skullcrusher, and Deeplager. And I've ont got write-ups for 4 of the minor clans. Surehammer, Stonebreaker, Flamecaller, and Gordrivver. The minor clans each only have one paragraph written about each. For example, Flamecaller is a dwarf clan that produces an unusually high number of arcane casters, be they wizards, warlocks, swordmages, or what have you. Gordrivver's write up is just that the clan adhers to some old teachings and has close ties to the earth. They count a large number of druids, shamans, and wardens among them, and it is considered very lucky for a mining expedition to have a Gordrivver Stonespeaker (which their shamans are often called), along on a mining expedition. For this reason, Clan Gordrivver has close ties to Clan Rockjaw, the Great Clan with the most extensive mining operations. That's all I have already worked out. The rest I kind of pulled out of a hat, adapting the idea to 3.5 and going off what you said about the paladin you had earlier. I'd suggest some alternate power for a Stonespeaker Dwarf Druid other than Resist Nature's Lure, perhaps geting the granted power of either the Earth or Cavern domain, and maybe adding those spells to his spell list. I wouldn't add too many other powers, namely because the druid, like Fox said, is already a powerful class. Which is why I advocate finding alternate powers that replace existing ones. I don't think any of the things I suggested in my first post are that overpowering or game-breaking, though. And adding a few spells to your class list (especially if they replace spells like plant growth, speak with plants, and other plant-related spells), wouldn't be too bad, either. And a Small Earth Elemental, if put on the "Druid level 4+" table, wouldn't be too powerful, either. Again, though, check out Races of Stone, if you have it. I'm almost certain there was a Prestige class for dwarf or gnome druids. And maybe even a racial substitution level for druids, although it might have been for goliaths. Perhaps your DM would allow you to use those alternate class features. |
