| #1wizditzJan 21, 2009 13:35:42 | erdana"> I'm still a little new to d&d and I love it. i'm an 9th level wizard and i need a little help. I picked up some enchanting books and im about to learn how to do it except i can't get to the wizards guild to get some help on how to do it. Its really bugging me. I have asked someone in a town about it and they told me the location but not how to get in. I really need some pointers i guess you could say. |
| #2veritascitorJan 21, 2009 13:45:26 | I assume you're refering to an in-game situation here. In which case, the situation is entirely controlled by your DM, and there's no way that anyone here can know anything about the game world in your campaign is taking place. You're going to have to talk to your DM about this. |
| #3Dark_StrykeJan 21, 2009 14:07:28 | Is this a troll thread? Going with the 4E = videogame angle? There's no way this is serious... |
| #4rexracerjrJan 21, 2009 14:16:37 | maybe the poster thinks this is the forum for DDO? |
| #5ShiftkittyJan 21, 2009 14:17:13 | I'm seeing "new to D&D" combined with "9th level wizard". If this is a serious post, perhaps this "new person" should start over again at Level 1 until they get the hang of things. If that's not in the cards, then this is an issue to be worked out with the DM. |
| #6manionJan 21, 2009 14:18:14 | maybe the poster thinks this is the forum for DDO? I consider this the most likely possibility. |
| #7rexracerjrJan 21, 2009 14:26:02 | Dude, play WoW. DDO is meh. |
| #8veritascitorJan 21, 2009 14:30:36 | maybe the poster thinks this is the forum for DDO? Ah, that would explain it. I was beginning to think we had someone here who had some trouble seperating fantasy and reality (I kid, I kid). ;) To the OP, this forum is dedicated the Dungeons and Dragons pen-and-paper roleplaying game. If you're refering to Dungeons and Dragons Online, you'll want to check here: Dungeons and Dragons Online Forums |
| #9crazysamaritanJan 21, 2009 14:38:22 | maybe the poster thinks this is the forum for DDO? It doesn't apply; DDO doesn't have a Wizard's Guild operating with 'enchanting books'. The closest thing is The Twelve, which you have to go past before you have anything that you might utilize with them. And they deal almost exclusively with Magic item crafting, not books. |
| #10Seeker95Jan 21, 2009 15:07:10 | Ignore these naysayers. You need to go up to the front desk of the Guild and use the secret passcode. If they refuse, you are supposed to fire a magic missile at them. It will not kill the clerk, but instead will let them know that you mean business. Then and only then will they help you. It is a test to weed out those who do not deserve assistance. If you believe that, I have a bridge in Sigil to sell you. |
| #11dark_lamboJan 21, 2009 15:17:52 | So in other words, the forum consensus is: ![]() |
| #12xaviermcvJan 21, 2009 15:48:17 | So in other words, the forum consensus is: It sure describes my reaction. |
| #13veritascitorJan 21, 2009 16:05:30 | So, the question is, how many confused reactions can this thread accumulate before the OP shows up again to clarify? :P |
| #14ambulacetusJan 21, 2009 16:21:12 | Ignore these naysayers. You need to go up to the front desk of the Guild and use the secret passcode. If they refuse, you are supposed to fire a magic missile at them. It will not kill the clerk, but instead will let them know that you mean business. Then and only then will they help you. It is a test to weed out those who do not deserve assistance. Don't listen to Seeker95, he is just trying to get you shanked by the bugbear. While I admit that would be hilarious, it is probably not good for your wizards long term survivability. In reality you need to find the wizards outhouse and knock three times on the back wall with your magic wand. This will drop you into a pit full of venomous long-horned screaming snakes. Take them out (with the usual tactics) and slit open their organs. In one of their gull bladders, you will find a silver key. You can use it to open the back wall in the barrister's shop; this will lead you to the wizards guild. In all seriousness, the answer to your question is going to depend highly upon the campaign you are in. The details of the game will vary based upon DM and setting so no one here can give you the correct answer. However, their are several things you might try. 1.) Gather Information Use a gather information check to try and find rumors about the guild. You find its locations or the name of some important members you can go to for more information. 2.) Rituals You are a wizard so you should have some access to rituals. I don't have my books with me, but I don't think their are not a lot of divination-type rituals (that is rituals that give you information) in heroic tier but I know their are at least a few that could help. If you have access to material from The Forgotten Realms Player Guide the Seek Rumor is a level 2 ritual that is fairly cheap and might help. 3.) Bribery Start spreading the word you are willing to pay a little gold for information on the guild. Money is a great way to get people talking. 4.) Stakeout You know where the guild is, hang around outside and wait for some guy or gal with a pointy hat, flitting robes, or other unusual feature to come by and question them (you may need to apply method 3 above). |
| #15cardboardcarnageJan 21, 2009 17:10:20 | Ignore all of these posters, your DM is testing you... don't say anything to anyone, and in your next game session, go to the local tavern and find the barkeep, walk up to him and say "May I please mumbo dog-faced to the banana patch?", he'll then give you the secret directions to the local Wizard's guild. Your DM just wants to see if you can be resourceful and find this out on your own... Oh, and be sure to post a reply here to let us all know how it goes. D. |
| #16morikalJan 21, 2009 19:07:06 | 1.) Gather Information Use a gather information check to try and find rumors about the guild. You find its locations or the name of some important members you can go to for more information. You mean, streetwise? I'm pretty sure Gather Information is no more. (I'm too lazy to go open a character sheet, and I don't have my book with me, so I could be wrong...) |
| #17ambulacetusJan 21, 2009 19:42:18 | Morikal, you are quite right it is streetwise, I didn't have my books either and old habits die hard. . . |
| #18tuszJan 21, 2009 20:42:04 | Morikal, you are quite right it is streetwise, I didn't have my books either and old habits die hard. . . Heh, I'm sure we all understand. I can't tell you how many times I've asked my players for "Spo--perception" checks. |
| #19RustmonsterJan 21, 2009 20:47:32 | Heh, I'm sure we all understand. I can't tell you how many times I've asked my players for "Spo--perception" checks. It's really hard to see those Spos. Elusive bastards. |
| #20tuszJan 21, 2009 21:31:08 | It's really hard to see those Spos. Elusive bastards. Yeah, I think they're bugged. I'm hoping they'll get fixed in the 4.1 patch. |
| #21TDarienJan 21, 2009 23:37:11 | Yeah, I think they're bugged. I'm hoping they'll get fixed in the 4.1 patch. dude. Don't even KID about that. Seriously :D |
| #22RustmonsterJan 22, 2009 0:16:27 | dude. Don't even KID about that. Seriously Yeah, Tusz, what are you thinking? It's obvious that the designers intended for Spos to be that hard to detect. Everyone knows that the 4.1 patch will be used to fix the Wizard Guild quest that the OP is obviously stuck on. I'm in the same boat. No matter how hard my level 9 Wizard tries, I simply can't use that enchanting book. How am I supposed to solo the Keep on the Shadowfell raid boss if I can't learn those spells? |
| #23RamienJan 22, 2009 0:19:40 | Yeah, Tusz, what are you thinking? It's obvious that the designers intended for Spos to be that hard to detect. There's always the 'Give DM money' hack... they keep trying to close that one down, but never seem to figure out all the ways to keep it from happening. |
| #24Chiba_MonkeyJan 22, 2009 2:41:57 | There's the complete fail-safe of "buy the DM a pizza" optional quest. This should net you enough xp to gain a level. Those enchanting books have a minimum level of 10 to use. |
| #25mkillJan 22, 2009 3:03:18 | There's always the 'Give DM money' hack... they keep trying to close that one down, but never seem to figure out all the ways to keep it from happening. That's nothing against the power of the "Threaten DM to make him sleep on the couch tonight" hack if you've installed the DM's Girlfriend Limited Expansion Set. |
| #26klaustheprinceJan 22, 2009 7:18:54 | That's nothing against the power of the "Threaten DM to make him sleep on the couch tonight" hack if you've installed the DM's Girlfriend Limited Expansion Set. There's always the "That's my house, *****!" cheatcode, OTOH. |
| #27Chiba_MonkeyJan 22, 2009 7:18:57 | That's nothing against the power of the "Threaten DM to make him sleep on the couch tonight" hack if you've installed the DM's Girlfriend Limited Expansion Set. :heehee That does trump most, but I got the Girlfriend Limited Expansion set with the 2.1 patch. That's the one wherin all references to "girlfriend" get changed to "wife" after you input /i.do.exe in the primary interface. They massively nerfed Hubadins. Yet strangely, I don't seem to mind. gameplay is a lot more fun. |
| #28rakeJan 22, 2009 9:44:42 | ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A |
| #29RustmonsterJan 22, 2009 9:47:55 | ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A Sorry, Rake. The Konami code no longer gives you 20 extra lives. WotC thought that it was unfair in multiplayer mode. |
| #30elibusJan 22, 2009 10:17:52 | Hi mom, I see you made it back home safely. How was your stay at the hospital? I'm sure you had a great time. I see you're not feeling too well, and I am hoping you have forgotten your medicine again. I know sometimes things come up, but they are very important. I know this is a little public, but I think this is the only way to get you to listen. I know everything is different right now, but things had to change after you left, things had to heal after the damage you caused. Dad's still not the same man he used to be, but he's pulling himself together. John says he's not mad at you anymore, but he just can't bear to see you right now. But things will get better if you work at it, you just have to remember to take the little steps the doctors taught you about, and stay away from things that lead you astray. I know you're confused and hurt, but please just stop this. I know you don't really believe any of this. Amy and I are flattered that you would pretend our family is a guild of mages, it's much better than what you called us last time...but it's still not what's real, and you know that. I also am glad you are trying to reach out to me and I'm sorry that I've driven you to such extremes as looking for me on a gaming forum. In spite of all of this, what I said before is still true. I don't want to talk to you right now, and I hope you can understand this. Please, mom, just leave us all alone. Maybe after you've adjusted, we can all make some progress; but not yet. It's going to be slow, but I know we can do this. |

| #32rakeJan 22, 2009 11:00:19 | I thought it was ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A B A START...wasn't it? No, I don't think so. Well, Start might've been in there at the end. I think it depended on the game. |
| #33RamienJan 22, 2009 11:46:58 | No, I don't think so. Kinda have to hit start at the end, or the game never begins/comes out of pause. Of course, you're both dead now, since WotC switched to the SNES version of the code. |
| #34zombie_babiesJan 22, 2009 12:29:19 | I thought it was ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A B A START...wasn't it? Man, that was a LONG time ago. I was just a young teen... This was it. Add a SELECT for two-player fun. I played too much Contra when I was younger ... |
| #35rakeJan 22, 2009 14:00:04 | I dunno, I remember it as: ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A. I never remember anything after the A. Plus the 'Too Much Contra' achievement on Achievement Unlocked (http://armorgames.com/play/2893/achievement-unlocked) is just: ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A. EDIT: Wikipedia appears to concur. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konami_Code |
| #36zombie_babiesJan 22, 2009 14:13:42 | Huh. I swear to god I had to hit B A twice. I did it so many times. Oh well. No biggie. Does anyone remember the huge combo sequences for Killer Insinct? Those were fun! :D |
| #37RustmonsterJan 22, 2009 14:14:50 | Does anyone remember the huge combo sequences for Killer Insinct? Those were fun! :D C-C-C-COMBOOO BREAKER!!!!! |
| #38zombie_babiesJan 22, 2009 14:16:59 | I used to have so many friggin specials and combos locked in my head from that game. I wonder where they all went ... That game rocked. Hard. :D |
| #39etarnonJan 24, 2009 1:49:04 | Only your DM knows, OP. Good luck. Welcome to the life. |

I love how it took like ten posts of discussing the Konami code for someone to see that weird post. ![]() Edit: This is the person's bio from her forum home page: Biography: D&D=Love Location: Town Occupation: Goin to school Other Hobbies & Interests: Halo3. sewing.
